  • Recognintion for # of responses as well as # posts

I was thinking that posters should get additional credit for the number of responses for an OPs thread starting post gets in addition to the number of posts in total of a poster.

Did you happen to think of how we could program that in ? (If it's not an option in the software).

You do get TS4MS points for both starting a thread and replying to a thread. You also get points for READING threads, logging into the site, and just doing what people do here... Obviously, you get more points for starting threads then replying... and more points for replying then just reading...

You also get more points for timeshare specific forums then posting in the hottub. So, why don't you post some exchange opportunities every day and watch how fast the points start adding up!

The post count is just a value that says how many times you post... I am not interested in changing the way that works... Points really show who is the most active members of the site!

If people become too focussed on the points there is a danger that they would post replies which are of little real value simply to increase their own count.

          Yea, I agree.

This type of posting can be construed as being against the site code of conduct and could result in disciplinary action(tho it has not been done as yet):

Hey Keith, note how you HAD 15,113.23 points:

              13931.48000
              1182.74879

We can reward and we can take rewards away...

Post when you see this and I will fix your points after I know you got to see my point

Ken is aware that his little demo created something of a problem with respect to replying to the post. I'll leave it cryptic just to get everybody else wondering what happened.

My thought in the original OP, was that if people got credit for the responses they would put more thoughtful effort in the thread starters so as to elicit more responses from the readers. And the responders would be more thoughtful in their answers etc. Thus make it more interesting for all of us 4mers.

Of course, all a poster would need to do is start a thread entitled "RCI is great!" or "Why points and weeks are both equally good" and they would get a ton of replies (and points!)

WOW I had no idea. I guess I should make sure I "refresh" every time I'm here so that it realizes I'm here "fresh" . . . Thanks for the 411 on that

Well, you need to do more then keep hitting the refresh button... the code is pretty sophisticated but I am not telling how it exactly works to prevent abuse.

Note near the bottom of the page where it says:

                        Points Per Thread View: 1.00
                        Points Per Thread: 5.00
                        Points Per Reply: 2.50

Yes, you get 5-points for a new thread, 2.5-points for replying and the OPer gets 1-point for every person that view the thread. The better your threads and the more you make, the more points you end up with!

Thanks Ken, I realized that. My point was that often when I come to TS4MS the cookie hasn't refreshed or whatever it is called, so it doesn't recognize that I'm "here" on a new visit. The "You last visited: " date/time is like early yesterday when I was on again last night. I'm assuming that unless I refresh to recognize this is a "new" visit, I wouldn't get any points for coming to TS4MS and reading threads and posts. I have no interest in gaming the system for points.
