The shuttle is suppose to launch on Tuesday August 7 at 6:36pm.. Has anyone here seen a shuttle launch? We are going to be in Orlando that week and are thinking about going over to Cape Kennedy. If we want to see the launch where should we position ourselves for a better view? Would we be able to tour Cape Kennedy that day or will it be closed for security reasons?

I watched a launch many years ago. Definately worth the drive to see it. Of course, there's always the chance the launch will get scrubbed, but that's just a risk you gotta take.
As far as best places to view, I don't recall where we watched from. There was a recent thread OT (or is that OY ) about best places to watch. Here's that thread...

The date has been moved to Wed. August 8. All the tickets at Cape Kennedy have been sold. In doing some searching I have found that it can be viewed approx 12 miles away in Titusville (too bad we are not staying at the timeshare there - hey maybe we can do a tour!) and watch it across the river.

We are also in Orlando and plan on watching the Space Shuttle launch. We will be watching it somewhere in Titusville. There are bus tours Grey Line and Florida Dolphin Tours that have launch ticket packages but they are none refundable so I didn't purchase any. Here are 2 links you might find helpful Link1 Link2. We are in Orlando until the 9th so I hope it doesn't get delayed again.
We were at Kennedy Space Center yesterday and it was a day well spent but we didn't see all the attractions. I think a person could spend 2 days there.
We did the guided bus tour and were able to get some nice pictures of the Space Shuttle on the launch pad. For me the 3D movie was the highlight of the day at the SC.
I missed the launch of the Phoenix rocket this morning.
Where are you staying? We are at Marriott's Cypress Harbour.

We saw it from Cocoa Beach one year. We were in Orlando and it was to launch on Monday, but didn't launch till Thursday. We were lucky because that was the day we picked to go to the beach.

I visited the KSC on Friday 8/3!
DW and I took the Mustang Convertible down the beeline to KSC. I just love that place! So much so that I upgrade my ticket to the annual pass. Oh well I will just have to return within a year. Got some great pics of the shuttle on the Pad (39A). You do indeed require a second day to take it all in. We also visited the space station assembly building. You can actually view the clean room where the workers are putting the final touches on the station components!
Yesterday we went back to Cocoa beach for the afternoon. Currently at the MGV!!!! To bad I will be departing tomorrow.Flying at MACH4 +
