Cell phone usage in the Bahamas

We are going to the Bahamas. Can anyone give me any advise on cell phone usage in the Bahamas or while on the ship. Our other port of call is Coco Cay. We use Alltel as our provider.

Expect excessive charges but call Alltel for the straight scoop.

I was in Nassau over New Years and between DAE and RHC my reservations were messed up at Wyndham Crystal Palace. they would not help or make any calls, had to call on my Cingular (now ATT) personal phone several calls to get it straightened out at something like $1.99 or $2.99 per minute!

Cell phone on Grand Bahama Island

My family and I were on Grand Bahama Island in July. We have Verizon phone service. My daughters answered their phones a few times while on the island. My next months phone bill came a few dollars highter due to roaming charges. They did not make calls out, only received them. We did have service all week. Hope this helps. Grand Bahama is 50 miles off the coast of West Palm Beach, Florida.
