I've read previous Roomba threads on TS4MS with interest/amusement, so now that I need a bit of advice on purchasing a Roomba of my own where do I turn? TS4MS, where else!
We are in the process of replacing the carpets in our hallway, dining room and kitchen with hard flooring and, given that we have kids and pets, I am looking for a quick/simple way of keeping them clean on a day-to-day basis. A Roomba seems the obvious solution.
After extensive internet research I have concluded that a Discovery is just what I need, though hubby likes the idea of a Scheduler so it can clean when we are out at work.
The problem? We live in the UK and I have found very few websites which stock genuine European versions (i.e. ones which will cope properly with being plugged into our 240v mains rather than ones advertised on Ebay with just 'a UK plug attached').
The Discovery costs about £175 on several reputable-looking websites, but the closest I can find to a Scheduler is one site which advertises a 'conversion kit' to add Scheduler functionality to a regular Discovery.
I checked the iRobot website yesterday thinking it may give me some info on the 'conversion kit' and found, to my consternation, that a whole new range of Roombas has just been launched - the 500 series. These seem even better than the Discovery, ironed out many of the niggles etc.....and now I don't know what to do at all!
Has anyone used on of the new 500 series Roombas? is it really so much better than the Discovery? (it may be a long time before a european version is available, and I don't know whether to wait, and it may be far to expensive anyway!)
Is the Scheduler easy to use? if i can find one, is it worth purchasing over the regular Discovery?
Does anyone know anything aobut the Scheduler Conversion Kit?
Apologies for the long post, and many thanks for any replies!
Helen
