September 11th 2001 - Heavy on my heart again this year

It is hard to believe that it has been six years since that day when so many people lost their lives and all of our lives changed in such a drastic way. During these moments after when the 1st plane struck the first tower I remember being in a meeting hearing that a plane had struck one of the towers.

I remember well expecting that it was a small plane and wondered how a pilot could make such a mistake on such a nice day. When my meeting was over I returned to my office to discover that a second plane had struck the second tower.

Well, at that point I was quite anxious on what that meant but I was already prepared for that fact that someone had declared war on the United States and I took a vacation day and went home. I spent the rest of that day watching TV trying to adsorb what was happening and what it meant for this country.

Too many people have forgotten what happened on this day six years ago and for those that have chosen to forget I present to you my tribute to September 11, 2001. My God protect those that have left this world before us and may we help each other in another crisis as well as New York worked together to help their own on those darkest of dark hours!

There are emails going around asking people to leave there lights on in memory of 911 for today.
We will never forget I know what I saw in person is stuck in my mind for life. I still see the same images that I saw. The ones that stick are not what I saw on TV but what I saw from the overpass by my house. I recall just sitting on my front porch and putting my head in my lap with tears coming down. I am sure this hit all of us but it hit the People of NY harder than what anyone thinks.

I think that, as with most momentous events in our lives, 9/11 seems like it happened yesterday and at the same time seems to have happened a lifetime ago.
It's a memory that never really fades.

Thank you for that tribute, Ken. The pictures brought tears to my eyes...as any pictures from that day do. It's one of 'those' memories that I can not forget and will stay with me forever.

We went to Las Vegas the following November (NO those terrorists were NOT going to make us stay home) and I can remember going past New York New York and seeing the fence covered with flowers, T-shirts, pictures and crying again at the memorial there. May they all rest in peace, and their families continue to heal. God Bless America...the land of the free!

Nice tribute, Ken....bigfrank- It was hard enough watching on TV...I cant imagine living thru it as a local New Yorker...
My prayers are with those who are no longer with us, and for all their friends and family members that have to relive that day every day of their lives.......

Thank you Ken. No, we haven't forgotten and never will but we only saw it on TV. Can you imagine having been there in person? It is a very sad day for many families today. It also brought the best out in people that day and the following weeks and months.

I will never, ever forget September 11. To this day, I can remember the horror of waiting to find out if any of our family or friends where injured or killed in the attack. The frantic phone calls, and then the heart breaking news of finding out that we lost three friends on that day. I will never forget the wretched smell that lingered for weeks, or the hundreds of photos displayed of missing people. Each photo had a story, and a family hoping and praying that a miracle would occur, and their loved one would be returned to them.

It was a brutal, heart-breaking event, that is sure to live in the minds of those who witnessed it, for ever more.

Thanks, Ken, for that heart-wrenching tribute. I, too, will never forget waiting for news of my loved ones. I didn't sleep for days, staying up all night watching CNN and any news I could get my hands on. I am haunted by the image of my brother walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, crying, covered in ash. But at least he was able to do that. So many others were not that lucky.
