  • Problems with Condo

How do you handle problems with your condo when you get there or find it during your stay?

Most of the time, I will notify maintenance or front desk of major items, but minor items, I will make a list and give it to the front desk when I check out.

I do the same thing. I always try to give it to the manager on duty. I don't know if anything gets resolved after I leave, but at least I feel I should try to make it better for the next person. They are not big things, usually a lightbulb, or maybe something that was loose or a hairdryer that didn't work well.

I have wondered how much the cleaning people report problems. Some things I have seen and seem obvious to me, I would have thought someone would have reported it and had it fixed by the time I got there.

Examples of problems I have had:
Stove that rocks, missing frying pan, bulb burned out, washing machine that I thought was going to walk out the door.

Most of the time, the issues with the unit are just that it is older looking and dirty-wear and tear items, not broken or missing parts.

If it is not something that needs to be repaired during my stay, I do note the items and give them to the desk so they can be fixed for the next guests.

I can't remember the last time we reported anything to anyone. I can remember times that we have, but that was long ago.

I don't believe that it is because there hasn't been anything that should be reported. Perhaps it is because we have grown accustomed to there being things that are not perfect, we accept that, and that (since it is not our property) if they wanted it fixed they would have already done it.

Of course, the really serious ones, the ones that are really shabby and show a total lack of effort, we report on these forums.

Serious stuff is reported as noticed, minor stuff gets reported on checkout. The only place I ever had poor response was at a Marriott(until sales called) and the only place there was a response but no correction was at the Village of Loon Mt. condos.

We notify while there as to missing items from the inventory or as to major items. We report the minor items when we check out in the hope that it will be better for the next person .Otherwise things may just continue to deteriorate.

I am not sure how many things housekeeping reports. It has been my experience that either they don't report them or maintenance doesn't listen to them or there isn't enough time between check-out and check-in that maintenance can not fix them all. Only the phantom knows for sure.

I don't think we've ever reported anything. I was realizing that we really SHOULD start reporting sometimes, but I just figured if it wasn't something really unbearable, we wouldn't want to deal with a repair person coming in.

Recently we had a stay somewhere and the downstairs TV had cable up to channel 100 or something, and the upstairs TV had cable up to channel 40. I must be a moron, but it didn't even occur to me till about Friday that it wasn't SUPPOSED to be like that! Of course we had one kid sleeping downstairs, so if we wanted to watch anything over channel 40 at night, we were out of luck.
