I'm with Elan - but maybe a few cigars too.

If a person had an extra 1344.48 laying around in their trading account, what would you buy?
      I think Elan was right.
CAR (Avis) 52 week high 31.47, low 9.00 currently 11.66. Below 20 and 50 day moving ave. Low volume, financial score low, no institutional money, group rank 4 (on a scale of 99 to 0, this is very poor).
WYN (Wyndham) 52 week high 39.30, low19.53 currently 22.99. Above 20 and 50 day moving ave. Increasing volume, financial score low (but higher than CAR), no institutional money, group rank 11 (better, but still very poor).

Between those two stocks, if I had to pick (I would really not go with either of those stocks and an not giving a recommendation), I would go WYN but it shows resistance at 25, so watch it.

But…I still think Elan was right. Get some beer and do some homework to look for something with better figures. There are a lot better stocks.

Again, I bought BEER, and it is going down, too.

When asking about a good buy, for my idle 1344.48, I did not mean just WYN and CAR. Anything.

Gold and silver have finally done what they have been threatening for 40 years.

Anything...Well that is a different matter.
Ag stocks are doing well, fertilizer, etc. MOO is a good tracking stock.
Gold will hit $1000 so a gold tracking stock is GLD.
Oil will hit $100 again, Oil suppliers or oil service companies have good upside, refiners (MRO, HES) will be continuing their run. I don't know that I would play OIH, it has had a nice run, but doesn't track all the oils the same way, Texas oil tracked differently than Middle East oil.

You can look for individual stocks in those areas or use the tracking stock. Most will show promise, but you need to evaluate.

I do not own any stock mentioned.

None of these stocks are buy and hold. Buy and watch for market conditions and adjust as required. You may see a run for a few weeks or a few months. Buy on the dips, 10% is a good dip.

          And good luck.

Who do you guys use to trade online?

I'm just wondering what companies you guys use to do your online trades -- and what does it cost per trade?

            Thanks,

I use Thinkorswim (TOS). Because I also use Investools, their parent company, I get a discount. I pay $5.00 for standard trades. Options are cheap too, but can't quote the price now. I am not positive on their prices, but I think their price for standard trades without Investools account is $7.95 or $9.95

I used to have Scottrade and paid $7.00 per trade. I found TOS to have a much better platform, designed for option trading more than stocks, but still works great for stocks. I get quicker order fills and better price with TOS.

Investools is a great education and research company. Their web tools help me to search for stocks and determine which fit my trading style.

So, here's how the stock market goes for me.

Tony mentioned a couple of stocks to use my beer money on. I bought one and it went down. Bought it again when it was down and made some money when it came back up.

Then I looked at the other one. I looked at the last 66 trading days and saw that it fluctuates more than 15% from high to low on many of the days. It moved more than 5% on 61 of the 66 days. So, I figured I found something to make a little in-and-out money on.

Today was the day I was going to start. Yesterday it closed at 2.09. It has been trading between 1.70 and 2.30. This morning I checked before the market opened and it was at 4.39!!!!! Yeah, it opened and stayed in the high 3s.

Just when I get ready to do something, the American Cancer Society came out with an announcement recommending this company's cancer screening test!!!!

Yup, that's me and the stock market.

Finally my beat up NYB banking stock went up $1.16 and closed at the high of the day which might mean there is still more up coming. It was nice to log into my account and see a 4 digit gain for once rather than see a 4 digit decline.

Today looks like a bad day for Gold. I don't think it will get much higher than $ 1000, tho I think it will hit it again. I was thinking I should tell you to sell late last night.

I wish someone would have told me that gold was going down. I am too heavy in gold now. If I was not in that all day meeting yesterday, I would not have lost much money, I would be in cash.

I am keeping an watchful eye on ag stocks, POT, MOS, MON, AGU. They have all had a beating. As example, Jan 22, MOS had a low of 71. A month ago, MOS was about 120 or about 50 point increase. Today's low point, it was 89. If it takes the same swing, it could go from 89 to near 140. Do I believe it will go that far in a month?? No, but it could go up 10-20 points in a month. A grand or two in a month isn't bad.

Financial stocks are doing well, as Frank has been bragging. My subscription report said to buy C at 22.02 with a target of 27.00. I am not doing that one, but am piling up my cash for the next buy signals on other stocks.

Not yet. All signs are still good, but I would keep an eye out. The moving average histograms are converging.
