Congrats Frank!!! Rutgers is a very good school. Hope he gets in his school of choice. Stevens will definitely work him harder. It will be closer to home. Does he know which branch of engineering yet?

I have a feeling that he will end up in Stevens but I hope he will consider Rutgers. We are also still waiting on RPI which he is now saying that he does not want to go there.

Is that early decision or early action? If he is accepted ED, he is committed to Stevens.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

I have 2 engineering degrees and had to work my tail off because I was brought up believing that you had to go to college and do well there to get a good job. I did just that and executed on that plan to perfection. But, nobody told me there was an easier way. I had to find that out myself.
If I had it to do all over again. I would major in business and party for 6 years at Dad's expense. Then, I would start my own business and hire those engineering majors to do all the work for me while I timeshared 26 weeks a year. Instead, I wasted 20 years working my butt off for someone else.

Security is already passe. It's a great area to get a background in. But, the big money has already been made there. I've been out of high tech for a couple years now, so I don't know what is hot. Security was hot about 5 years ago.
Also, engineers are being outsourced to India and China for $10,000 per year. The top talent still resides here. All engineering teams have those top guys that carry the whole team. It's the same in engineering as it is everywhere else. That makes it even more important to hook up and stay close to the business. Follow the money. It's the only way to protect yourself.
I am a very big fan of taking technology to low tech industries that have high margins and lowering the cost structure of the industry and capitalizing on the change. I believe timesharing is such an industry. It's technology across the entire industry is very archaic. It is ripe for technological change. We knows. Maybe it can.

I bet you he knows the difference between there, their, and they're
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

That is when you do all the dreaming about how you can change the world with what you are building. Serial entrepreneurs only think about how they can change the world through technology. It's the right way to go.

The husband of my wife's collegue went to India to train. When he came back, his department was disolved and all the work normally done here were sent to India. He was given a choice of taking 20% cut in salary on a different job or take the severance. I also has a friend who is currently training in India. When he comes back next June, he is expecting to be transferred to a difference position, most like with pay cut.
I am not saying that all jobs will be gone but will be very competitive. It best to have options. I keep telling my son to keep his eyes open on the job market before declaring his major in engineering before the end of his first year. At Stevens, it used to be at the end of the second year.

"To clarify, the Early Decision process is binding at the point that you decide to attend Stevens and submit your deposit at the stated deadline. Our process is not binding at the point of application receipt or acceptance."
Yes, my teeth nearly dropped out--I was like, how did I miss this on their website???? But the Stevens website and all the application materials make it seem like it's normal, binding Early Decision. Apparently it's not.
