Airplane Nearly Crashes at Hamburg Airport on 03/03/2008
I saw the video on the news yesterday. I would not want to be on board that plane. Wing had scraped the runway, lucky that the pilot was able to take off again with out damage.
I did have one landing where I felt like we were coming in sideways like that until we landed. Was really scary. Of course, we didn't scrape the runway or anything like that.
Wow, I'm glad i was not on that plane!
One time we were flying into Cabo and the plane did something like that, I don't believe that severe, the pilot aborted that landing, and came around again without a problem.
It would be a very scary moment for the passangers of the airplane. But I wonder if it is hyperbole to say "almost crash landed". It looks like the pilot was in full control, doing the right stuff to land with heavy crosswinds. He aborted the landing, showing his control.
My DH is a pilot of small planes and the principles are the same.
That is the reason many airports have cross runways so they can land without so much cross wind. When I used to fly this was my favorite type of condition for landing. Much easier in a Cessna 152 than a commercial jet.

Marilyn
She aborted the landing. Pilot was female. (Probably still is, too. I doubt the aborted landing was that traumatic.)
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
