  • Order of the Arrow

Just dropped my son off for his "Ordeal" in connection with the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scouts. I can't wait to hear what he has to say about it. Next step is Eagle Scout.

I have a few friends going for the Eagle Scouts this year. In fact one of them the father is a member here. My son should be going for it but he gave up years ago. I will email this thread to Mike so you guys can chat, BTW he is the Cub Master

Only had girls, but my goal for grandsons - Black Belt in TKD and Eagle Scout. Hope with three, I can get both of them. Congrat's to your son for Order of the Arrow. That is a great honor.

        I've never heard of this.

        What is it?

Not really sure myself. I know it is not a requirement in Boy Scouts, but rather a "brotherhood". You do have to meet certain criteria and be voted on (recommended) by the boys in your troop and you must be at a certain rank. This is all I know about it. Mayabe some of our other TS4MS members can give more insight.

Am still very active in Scouts and an Eagle Scout myself. Order of the Arrow is sort of a camping fraternity within Scouting. You have to be elected by your troop and then you have to accept and go on an Ordeal Weekend. From then on, the group basically does service projects for the local camp, like setting it up for the Summer and other things.

Scouts who are part of OA are generally the top of the heap. Most who remain active in OA go on to become Eagle Scouts as well.

Hope this helps to understand! It is indeed an honor, although not nearly as big as earning your Eagle Badge.

              Congratulations!

My son is an Eagle Scout from 2001 - I headed the troops Advancement Committee for 4-5 years and helped several boys acheive the rank.
Scouting is a wonderful program and will serve your son well now and in the future.
I believe being an Eagle Scout helped my son get into the college of his choice and Law School.
