  • It's March 30, and I have an inch of global warming on my sidewalk

I have an Asian variety plum trees that are prolific producers in our western Washington climate. Last year I removed almost three-quarters of the crop during thinning, and still wound up with over 500 fruit. I was giving them away to anyone who was interested, including the street missions in downtown Seattle.

My neighbor offered to host a plum wine making get together for the neighborhood folks to help manage the fruit.

This year I don't think I'm going to get anything. The tree is in blossom right on schedule, but it''s been freakin' snowing off and on the last week. Right now I've got almost an inch of snow on the ground that has fallen in the last four or five hours.

Needless to say, the critters that pollinate are still waiting for decent weather to get out and do their thing. There's only about two or three more days though until the blossoms are done for the Asian plum and cherry varieties.

It's supposed to warm into the 50's (normal for the season) in a couple of days. That means that the apples and pears should be OK, and if the weather stays warm the Italian plums (which are the last to bloom) should be OK.

On the "bright" side, some of the primrose "annuals" I planted a year ago survived the winter (though this was a colder than normal winter) and started blooming robustly about three weeks ago.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

We are forcast to get 3-5" on March 31. I am tired of it. I will need to go to the duplex and snow blow there, and do our driveway. We should be in the 50, but haven't had a 50 since early November. Last year in March, we had temps in 60s a couple 70s and even an 80 degree day.

I keep thinking about the MN Twins opener tomorrow. When we get the 'tax funded' stadium open, there won't be games on days like these.

No snow here but very cold. Was 13 degrees last night when I got home from Frank's party.

Last year we had some snow but the weather was warm enough that we rode all winter long. This year I'm lucky if I get out 2 or 3 times a month.

Nothing like global warming to cool down the ol' temps.

80 here is SW FL (inland)..windows open, nice breeze, fluffy white clouds overhead, and down to 'just under 60' at night. I can live with this.

Am I sure??? Oh, yes....even with the hurricanes and hot and humid rainy season and the very dry season...Been here 7 years and it still beats living in IL or OH and their nasty, cold, dismal, dark, snowy, icy, cold winters.

You had me sold, until you brought up the hurricanes, hot, humid, rainy, and dry seasons.

Not that the nasty, cold, dismal, dark, snowy, icy, cold winters sound any better.

On the last day of March, we got 5-8" of snow in the Minneapolis area. Several nearby towns had record snowfall for this date. Don't know if I should bring out the snow blower after I get off work, or let the three sisters take care of the snow. The three sisters are, of course, April, May and June.
