Wed. April 16th will mark one year for the killings on the Virginia Tech campus. 32 people gunned down by a very upset mental person. He also took his own life. This happened in my home town, Blacksburg. The community of campus and town are still asking why, how could this happen? Remember also NIU and others on middle schools, high schools, community colleges and other univs. all over. VT is closed that day.
There are many memorials planned in town and on campus. One church is having breakfast for anyone and services after. Another is having a dinner and a walk to the drill field for memorials around 32 hokie stones with the names of the fallen etched onto them. Many more gatherings are planned that are not church related too. There is something for everyone to help them through this hard time. One church has asked for home made cookies to be given out for as long as they last. There is a group that wants to protest too. I would rather they wouldn't but we all have rights.
Laws have changed some in VA as it relates to sharing of information for people with mental issues. Police, hospitals, courts, can now share information. As I see it more changes are needed but that kind of thing runs into problems with people who think no one has a right to gather any personel information about them.
Changes in gun purchases have not changed as far as I know although changes were suggested but never made the floor. Bill of Rights people get real touchy about making any changes. Understand that the killer broke no laws in VA for obtaining a handgun at that time. There have been changes made as far as what teachers and fellow students can do about other students actions. Some people want to allow hand guns in classrooms. As one might guess some people think that is just crazy.
The town will be dressed in moroon and orange, some businness will be closed. Some satalite trucks can be seen around town again that serve as a reminder of that day.
I knew some of the people killed that day. It is hard to think they are gone.
We all stand strong here even if we need to hold onto someone every now and then. A hug with no words speaks so strong!
I know a lot of people do not care for my posts here but this is not about me.
    It's for the 32 (33) H O K I E S that are not with us.
