  • Frank: Would Love Your Restaurant.Com Recommendations For NYC

    Hey Frank--

Since you are the restaurant.com maven for NYC restaurants, I'd love to hear your current recommendations. We're going to be at the Manhattan Club from May 3-10, and I'm hoping to use a couple of restaurant.com certificates to lower the cost of the trip. Which are your favorites?

Thanks, I'll definitely try Destino, and may try some of the others.

If anyone wants to try a KNISH PRESS, Press 95, my nephews restaurant just got written up in the NY Times. Also, some other recommendations from The NYT Dining & Wine ......Seven New Sandwiches Try to Make It in New York - New York Times

        KNISH PRESS

The owners of Press 195, a sandwich joint with stores in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and Bayside, Queens, may have avoided putting the word “panini” on the menu. Nonetheless their futures are staked to pressed sandwiches: they have more than 30 on the menu. “Every deli in New York has panini now,” said an owner, Chris Evans, who grew up flipping burgers at the estimable Donovan’s Pub. But what the delis don’t have — yet — is the knish press: a sandwich built on a split potato knish, the brainchild of Brian Karp, the chef and co-owner.

        Chris Evans is my nephew.
        Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I'll ask him. He grew up in Bayside, and his family has lived there for years. He married my niece, and they have two young children. He's a real niece guy.

BTW....If anyone does go to Press 95, I strongly suggest ordering their #5 Pressed Prosciutto Sandwich. It's outrageous!

We went to Destino NY last night for dinner. I had to drag Young there, but ultimately she loved it, as did I. I went with the recommendation and had spaghetti and meatballs. I ordered the Sole Almandine for Young. We split a salad of pears, candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese and arugala with balsamic vinaigrette dressing -- delicious.

We brought in a great bottle of Brunello di Montalcino (Donovan), and it was great, as well. Corkage was a bit pricey at $35, but at least we had a great wine with dinner for $95 total. The bill was pretty reasonable for a nice dinner in NY -- $195 plus tip for two of us, including wine. Thanks for the tip!

I'm still thinking that Thursday at noon would work, unless you want to change the time/date. I'm up for Knish Nosh on Queens Blvd. Just let me know the best subway stop. We're having a great time. Did a walking tour of the Village today, and will probably go back tonight for some live music and dancing. . . .

Sounds good to me Thursday at noon, Not sure if you can get to the M train but if you can that is easy pick up for me. Ireland's call said it was easy to come in via M train. I am lost with trains.

The E or the F runs right along Queens Blvd. I believe there is a stop near Knish Nosh.

I had heard that, as well. Was it the Forest Hills stop?
