  • Enough is Enough!!

I just received a call from VISA's fraud alert on DH's card! There were two charges on his card that he did not make yesterday (while he was in dialysis)...so it's shred his card this week. Last week it was MY Visa card and two weeks prior is was both our AMEX cards! We have all cards in our possession, so they got our #'s somehow. The one on my card last week was an on line purchase to EHarmony for $175...I told the gal that I've been married for 56 years and I am not about to try and train a new one!!

We are both ready to turn in our cards and carry cash and wonder "Why Us?" Thank heavens for the CC companies watching for strange charges. But they never questioned MY on line charge for flowers for my Mom for Mother's day. Go figure!

I seldom have to show any ID when I use my card and they seldom check my signature...just glance at my card. A drug store clerk did ask for my ID and I thanked her. At WalMart the other day she didn't even check my card. She said the register will tell them to check or not check, so I must be OK. I told her, "So how do you know it is MY card? You didn't ask for ID". She just shrugged. Guess it's time to start my own campaign of pulling out my driver's license and my credit card.

One thought -- is your mailbox secure? That is one of the ways those slimeballs try to steal identities / CC info / etc.

The best way to monitor your CC use, IMO, is to sign up for the online access. Then you can check for invalid charges anytime, and don't have to wait for the monthly statement or for the CC company to call you.

I use www.annualcreditreport.com is free, not associated with those 'free for 30 days and then we charge your credit card for monitoring your credit' offers. I usually do one report from the three credit card companies, then 4-5 months later, I do a second company to get their report.

You have to be so careful everyday!
We use only one credit card number and each have a card. We do not use it often. We keep track of every purchase. Hubby is online everyday keeping track to make sure there is no purchases that we did not make.
We were out at a new restaurant, the waitress took our card to pay for the meal, the next day we had charges on our credit card (online purchases) She probably took photo of the card w/ her cell phone! We had to cancel and start over again!
We shred everything! It's amazing what we've become because of theives!

Only one problem so far. The CC company put a hold on all charges and I only found out when I tried to charge my car insurance and the card was denied. The info was stolen by someone working for my web site provider and the fraud department at the CC was totally inept and didn't seem to care about the details. Very inept and most discouraging!

Since we both have these two cards in our possession I would like to know where the thieves picked up the numbers...or hacked into what to get them. At first I thought it was a grocery store chain because their system had been hacked into, but now I'm not so sure. The CC people don't know either as I did ask that. I will ask "Where was the card used" and it has mostly been out of state, or at least out of our immediate area.

As far as the statements being stolen from our mail box...they don't come here, but are handled through our money account with our broker. I do try to go on line and check both accounts, but sometimes forget. But all these times I've gotten a call, it has been almost immediately after someone attempted to use..or did use the card. Time to check into LifeLock!!

Perhaps not! LifeLock's CEO had his identity stolen.

This article points out that LifeLocks claims and advertisements are misleading, at best. LifeLock's co-founder Robert Maynard has a criminal record.

Are you sure you want to do business with that company???

Wow! That is amazing. I had no idea. Incredible that the founder is an identity thief and that he came up with idea while he was sitting in jail. You just can't make this stuff up! Thanks for sharing this Pig's Dad. I will keep my $110/year.

??? Do they even have educational insurance ? Even in the PHILIPPINES !!!
My advice is to study-forget the insurance, particularly if it results in a subsequent spam posting.

Go to google and type education insurance. That sounds like something AIG will do (cover the loss of education loan). I will guess the spam link will come from some of the top links

So why did someone resurrect a thread that is more than three years old to make a post about educational insurance??? They wouldn't have just stumbled across this thread and decided to reply; it's buried too deeply. It would have been retrieved with some kind of a search.

Can't help but think that someone's going to offer us a spam sandwich sometime soon.
