  • Are you saving for college, do you eat out?

Here's some savings this month. If you're saving for college do you have a upromise account? This month they're offering 22% back (normally 12%) for entertainment.com purchases. Books are already 50% off for this year and they also offer gift cards on their site for Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze, and Smokey Bones at 10% off ($50 cards for $45). So if you're a upromise member and go through the upromise site to entertainment.com and buy the discounted books or the already discounted gift cards you'll get 22% back to the upromise account. The way I read the upromise site you can link these savings to a 529 account or just send a letter to withdraw the funds at any time and have them sent to you.

Not a member of upromise. But, I am anticipating being a member of the IOU club when my kids go to college.

I have been a member of upromise for about 4 or 5 years now. I have received $450 for leasing GM cars (I don't know if they still do that) and AT&T used to kick back a portion of my phone bill (they stopped). If you register your grocery cards, they will give you a few cents on certain products, like Coca Cola. I get a penny a gallon back from Exxon/Mobil if I use a registered charge card. It adds up, and it's money you are spending anyway. I haven't tried to get the money out yet, but it's several hundred dollars so far. My youngest is in 11th grade. You can get a percentage back on a lot of internet shopping also, but you have to click through the link on their page. I wish I had thought of it when I bought my son's Dell notebook. I could have gotten $40 or $50 from that one!

My kids are paying their own way. Over here, we have something called HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme). It came into place when uni courses were no longer free. Basically, you go to Uni if you get the marks and start paying back when your income reaches a certain amount.

Got my order today, although the entertainment.com site insinuates that you are choosing a card for one of the restaurants listed above, it is a generic card good for any of the restaurants above.
