  • I'm officially a Golden Grad

I graduated from a small Catholic high school in 1958 with 63 of my classmates. The entire high school enrollment was around 300 students so we knew every strudent in the school.

Several years ago the alumni association started inviting the the grads of 50 yrs ago to walk in the graduation procession with the current year grads and last night was my graduating classes' turn. 95 current grads and approx 20 golden grads.

It was a tremendous experience. We processioned in behind the grads, sat immediatly behind them, were introduced by name, awarded "Senior Grads" diplomas, and treated to refreshments after graduation in a separate area from the new grads.

There were 2 couples from our class who married each other and are still currently married. One of the couple's grand daughter graduated last night so they had the privilege of walking in the same procession.

I was amazed at the amount of the scholarship money that was awarded. Several student won over $100,000 from a single college and many in the $90,000 range. Many won high monetary awards from several colleges and could only accept one so I guess the rest went back into the college kitty. It's a shame that money could not be given to other students.

I thought that maybe the new grads would view us as old fogies but that was not so. They seemed happy that we were included and were very friendly and courteous to us.

What a great time I had.

How sweet. Was it nice seeing your fellow grads? Had you kept in touch with them all?

We have a reunion every 5 yrs so I see most of them at the reunion. About 6 of us girls get together for dinner a few times a year and I have worked on the reunion committee each 5 yrs. Oct is our 50th. It's really hard to believe we've been out of school 50 yrs. When we girls get together, we still act like we're in high school.

Other schools should do the same thing.
