  • Has anyone heard of Sundance Vacations?

I have an "appointment" with them tonight... it is supposed to take about an hour of my time and in exchange I receive a free cruise to Bermuda (I just pay port taxes and fees)
Hoping to hear from someone before tonight
    Thanks,
    Judy

    Sundance Vacations Phony Cruise

Sundance Vacations is a FRAUD. I also got suckered into going down to pick up the free cruise I had been given as a "gift." Now, the customer service agent was correct in that they never use the word "won". It’s just a matter of wording to keep their scams on the border-line of legal. And I understood that I had to sit through an hour of a sales pitch. which I was fine with. What I was not fine with were the LIES that they had told me in advance about this free cruise.

LIE #1: I could go on the cruise at ANYTIME during the year. I was told repeatly by the woman on the phone about how I could basically go whenever dates I wanted to, anytime during the next year. Well, that is a lie. When I received my vacation voucher, I looked at the fine print on the back page. You CANNOT use this cruise during the months of June, July, August, or any week of which there is a holiday.

LIE #2: If I didn't use the cruise, I could do with it whatever I wished. I could give it as a gift or sell it. The fact is, you CANNOT. It clearly states that the name of the trip is non-transferable and cannot be sold.

LIE #3: I was told airfare was included and that I could fly from my local airport..which is a major international airport. That isn't true. They tell you where to fly out of. For example, they mentioned Newark, New Jersey as a possibility. Plus, the fine print says it only includes "base" airfare. I'm not even sure what the fine print is on base airfare

LIE #4: I was told I would simply have to pay minor taxes on a trip which values at about 1, 200 dollars. Well, the taxes start at 225 dollars per person (35 percent tax???????) Plus, there is all kind of registration and booking fees on top of that.

LIE #5: I was specifically told on the phone I would even receive free gift cards to Applebee’s, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden if I came to the 5pm presentation. When I inquired about them, the girl gave me a funny look and told me that "they didn't give them out anymore because people don't use them." What??? I was told only the DAY BEFORE I would be getting them. So, they gave me this piece of paper and said to go eat somewhere (anywhere), attach the receipt to the paper, send a self addressed stamped envelope, and I could get up to 15 dollars for my meal. I'm not holding my breath.

Bottom line, this company is a fraud. They told me out and out lies about the cruise just to get me in. They are very shrewd. They have people designed to search these very blogs just to tell you how wonderful they are. There is an old saying. "Me thinks thou protests too much." If someone has to over and over again tell you about all the awards they won and how great they are...makes you wonder why...doesn't it?????

        Sundance Vacations Sweepstakes

I discovered the following post which I found very interesting:

"The linked article was published in the Philadelphia Daily News on November 10, 2009 in which financial adviser Harry Gross warns against 'free seminars' conducted by 'travel clubs.'

Harry Gross: An alert about 'free seminars' | Philadelphia Daily News | 11/10/2009

Here is another newspaper article, Philadelphia Inquirer, August 9, 2009, addressing Sundance Vacations specifically:

Consumer Watch: Her vacation buy was no day at the beach | Philadelphia Inquirer | 08/09/2009

Then you have this article by travel journalist, Rosemary McClure of the Los Angeles Times, reprinted in the Chicago Tribune:

        The prize fight -- chicagotribune.com

Either all the aforementioned consumer reporters got it wrong, or Sundance Vacations deserves its' nefarious reputation; you be the judge!"

After all is said and done the most interesting aspect of the Sundance Vacations saga is that they allege over and over again that they never use the words "won" or "free." Nonetheless, if you Google Sundance Vacations Sweepstakes you'll discover that they DO use the words "won" and "free" over and over again! For example: "Enter the Sundance Vacations Sweepstakes to 'win' a Sundance Vacations 'free' cruise and hundreds of other grand prizes! Get the best wholesale travel discount ..."

Sundance Vacations says one thing but does another! That's both hypocrisy and deception; no ifs, ands or buts!

          Sundance Vacations AKA TAN

This post is from Ripoff Report.com:

Ripoff Report: Sundance Vacations - TAN Sundance Vacations False Advertisiment; Misleading Internet

          Posted: Tuesday, December 29, 2009:

"After being called because I "won" a "free" cruise wither to Mexico or the Caribbean, I went to their no-obligation meeting in New Jersey. My fiance and I like to travel each year at least once and after hearing what they had to offer it sounded like a great idea to be part of a vacation club and most of all what sold me was that they had a property in Aruba and the salesperson showed all the wonderful places that I would be able to travel to (they showed me a list that had percentages next to each place, which indicated the percentage of where people traveled). Well come to find out after I had already signed up, the biggest seller for me which was the Aruba property, not only had an age requirement of 35 (mind you I'm 29 my fiance is 25) but you had to pay an additional fee of $70/per person/per day (so an additional $980 and not to mention the additional $35/per child/per day). But the real kicker is that Aruba was the big item for me that sold me in addition to Costa Rica (for which they do not have a property but the sales person assured me that I'd be able to travel to) but the Aruba property is not available any longer because they no longer own the property/ What kind of BS is that????? By the way I found out that they no longer own the property after doing research months later and reading all these things people have been saying about Sundance (Tan) and decide I needed to call and cancel my contract. The representative Sarah in the Reservations Department was very addament about how everything was on the contract and that they will nto cancel my contract. So I told her I would be going to the Attorney General Office and making a report about them because the 2 places that sold me on the program (aruba and Costa Rica) are nto a posssibility for me. I've been trying to get Costa Rica booked for 3 months but because I'm not flexible enough with my dates they cannot find me an available property. And now they no longer own the Aruba property so I forget using my vacation weeks to go there.

Also, when I called the first time to cancel my contract the first thing they asked was if I was making payments, I said yes and they told me I would have to call Tristate Financial which is the company that has my loan. I called Tri-State and their answer was "you can't cancel your contract, this is a loan and you have to pay it off, we paid Sundance off and now you owe us the loan in full". I told them it was absurd to that I would pay them for a product I could not use. I then called my credit card company and told them not to allow any more charges from Tri-State beccause I'm disputing the contract."

It is reported that Tri-State Financial is owned by Sundance Vacations!

            Sundance Vacations

Here's a very interesting comment and well documented:

"Better Business Bureau REVOKES Sundance Vacations’ business accreditation!!! Sundance Vacations Review - TRAVEL AGENCIES AND BUREAUS

Need I say more? After all the proclamations about how they are members in good standing with the Better Business Bureau the above link speaks volumes.

Nonetheless, the last link explains the fallacy of the BBB. In fact, most of the Sundance Vacations credibility claims are based on self-serving entities! For example. The BBB is totally supported by business organizations that subscribe to their service such as Sundance Vacations. The American consumers’ contribute absolutely nothing to the BBB. Consequently, when a dispute arises the BBB has the choice of supporting the consumer, or biting the hand that feeds them so to speak by challenging the business organizations that are the life-blood of their very existence! The BBB is one of the biggest fallacies’ in America. They have no enforcement powers what-so-ever; they are nothing more than a paper tiger totally supported by the business community to offer the unwary consumer a false sense of security. Buyer Better Beware. The Fox guarding the henhouse! Ripoff Report Search Results: Better Business Bureau

After all is said and done, when the BBB revokes a paying members' business accreditation that's a very unusual course of action so there must have been a series of misrepresentations! But we knew that all along as this thread demonstrates."

              Sundance Vacations

Sundance Vacations is bad news! In fact, there is a Boycott Sundance Vacations Facebook page where they are referred to as "SunScam Vacations."

Also see: Sundance Vacations’ Weeks Cost about $1,100 Per Week.

This company practices a very-well designed, subtle and sophisticated scam, but a scam nonetheless.

If you are considering or had any involvement with SunScam Vacations do yourself a favor and research the company throughly. In doing so you may notice that most of the positive comments comes from SunScam Vacations' themselves; while most of the negative comments comes from average consumers, from all walks of life, encompassing 5 states.

              SunScam's Vacations' Complimentary Cruise.

See the "discussions" section at the upper left hand corner of the Boycott Sundance Vacations' page for cancellations procedures.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!!!

Hard to believe a company will give away free cruises for the fun of it. As usual by the time you pay all the charges in fine print you could have bought the cruise from the cruise company.

                    Dear Sirs,

Most of the timeshare resorts in Mexico are a well performed scam; the best defense you have is to research the company before the purchase. The resort representative will tell; you must make the decision that day. It's a lie.

                    Sincerely,

                    Ricardo Lasker.
