Does anyone have any experience with the rental storage spaces? If so, what is good or bad? Is it worth the extra money to rent a unit that is air conditioned and heated?

I rented a 'you store' type unit for some over a year when I had to kill my flower shop. :-( It was just a basic unit, no heat or a/c. It was just fine for what I had. I am sure it was probably hotter than outside temps in the summer, but maybe a little warmer than outside winter temps. It didn't get so hot that the candles melted. Now if you have something that you feel may be damaged by the heat or cold, then yes, you will need climate controlled storage.
If you are storing furniture, most kitchen stuff, or that type of stuff, temp control should not be needed. If you are storing your treasured antiques, maybe you want something controlled.
Bottom line, it really depends on what you are storing, and for how long.Don

I guess it depends on what your storing, where you live and for how long the items will be stored. We have some fluctuations in the NE weather. So the weather goes from cold and wet to hot and humid and all the ranges in between.
If it is short term rental I would not opt for climate control, If it is a long term rental and have any sort of furnishings or pictures, then I personally would get climate control.
last year we emptied my daughters' storgae unit after it being in there for ~2years. The sofa had an odor, which was musty I think just from the humidity.
