  • New Car Tires I think I got a good deal.

I knew this would be coming, at least I got a year and 8k or so miles more out of the original tires than when Honda said I needed new ones BTW I never liked the OEM Michelins.

Anyhow I had sent the Accord in for service this morning. Oil change and tire rotation. The mechanic calls me and says that the tires are down to the wear belts nad it is not worth rotating them as I need new. He tells me I can get a set of Coopers "H" rated for $89 mounted and balanced.

Discretion being the better part of valor, I tell him I'll call him back, that a friend gets good deals on tires. Instead of saying "Cooper tires are not worth the rubber they are made of."

I already know I want my next set to be Continental Extremes P205/65R15. I LOVE them. The hunt is on...call a friend of a friend and he comes back with $135 each. Call down the road they don't have them in stock and the lower grade is priced at $110/tire. Off to the internet.

Hmmm Mavis, right down the road, tires are in-stock website quote = $109 but they are giving them to me for $98.98 each!

    YIPPEE!

Check out these two sites Tire Rack and Discount Tires Direct

I use performance tires on our BMW so these places usually have better prices on high performance tires. Otherwise for our Ford Explorer I wait for a Costco sale and get my tires there because of warranty and service are included and it is convenient as well as priced well. Costco is not going anywhere whereas some other tire retailers change ownerships or are not around for follow-up.

Our Costco only carries Michelin and BF Goodrich. The OEM on our Accord EXV6 were Michelin® Energy MXV4+ P205/65VR15 which I hated from the day I bought the car. They are not good all weather tires and retail at $149/tire.

My Contis are on tirerack for $85/each so $99 mounted and balanced is a steal.

Mavis has been around for years and years here in the NY area. I'll have to hope they stick around for another 4 years ( which is about what I get on a good set of tires ) to keep up on the tire rotations.

I know girls aren't supposed to get excited about tires. I USED to get excited about cars but am in the 4 door sedan stage of my life now.

We used to use Sam's Club but are really getting down on them.

We did just as good recently at Wal Mart, and it will be easier to find a place to do the lifetime Road Hazard, rotation and balancing warranty. I have already rotated and balance them once.

A year ago we replaced the OEM Firestones on our Yukon at a regular local tire dealer, and they beat Sam's. It's time to rotate and balance them.

I put a set of the new Michelin Hydroedge tires on my Honda Odessey a few months ago and really like them. Great in wet weather.
