  • Bye Bye Time Warner

Yesterday I departed my relationship with Time Warner.

I am now fully Verizon. FIOS internet, FIOS TV, FIOS phone, Verizon wireless. The last piece was the TV. Been waiting for the NYC gov't to give Verizon the license to broadcast TV in NYC. Well that finally came thru last month.

I am so happy to be done with Time Warner and their lousy service!

So far I am good all round with Verizon.

    Check back in 3 months.

Let me know in 3 months if you like it, Right now I am paying for MCI over $130 a month for 2 lines, Direct TV another $130 and I think $50 for Earthlink. I will not get rid of direct tv but the other two can go.

I am beginning to get really frustrated with DirecTV. My DVR is only recording on one tuner. I was having a problem where big chunks of recorded shows would be missing or garbled and the recorder would lock up.

My recent searches are changing. I have Tim Curry as a name I watch for, but it is now Jane Curtin. Peter Sellars became something else. I have to keep a written list to know who / what I am looking for on my search list.

Well because of this thread I am now a Verizon Costumer, I was meaning to cancel MCI months ago. I can not get Fios yet but I switched my phone lines from MCI to Verizon and am going to switch from time warner Cable to Verizon DSL which is free for 6 months. Maybe in a year they might have Fios here on my bock, It seems every one around me has it/

Billy so far so good with Verizon

I switched cell service from them quite a while ago as most of my friends are Verizon. The coverage is better up in my neck of the woods as well.

A year ago I had FIOS installed for internet and phones and I couldn't be mopre pleased with it. A year of service and only one night was downtime for issues. and THAT wouldn't have bothered me in the least but DS was trying to play WOW when it went down. I was snoring.

I have not given them the TV portion and can't until my contract with DirecTV ends for HD services. I'll see what you have to say about them when the time comes.

You will get wired for FIOS soon

                  Frank,

As you already know Verizon is getting all 5 boros on FIBER. It is just a matter of time. I guess I am one of the lucky ones here. They must have a main backbone line and wired us up last year. I jumped on the FIOS internet lickety split. Just like Lawren says, I could not be happier. Speed is blazing fast!!! Upload Download Sideways.... I mean this mother is on fire!!!!

Hell thats why my old PC burned up!

                    And another thing.

The FIOS TV has this thing called Media Manager.

I can view all of my photos, and music from PC on the TV... This stuff is great.

Here, the reports are they are ripping out the copper connection wires between the house and pole, on new installs.

So, must be FIOS for ever after for phone service.

While I'm waiting for Verizon FIOS cable/TV contract with the Town to be accepted (probably never) I don't like the idea of ripping out the copper wiring.

Seems too many options are removed and only FIOS and one Carrier remains

The first FIOS tech that hooked me up last year did say that Verizon is gearing up to FIBER their whole network. Fiber is much more dependable than copper. They are indeed going to phase out reliance on copper.

I would venture to guess if you had new construction, and there was fiber in the street to your house, Verizon would not offer up a POTS or Plain Old Telephone copper connection. They would want you to go fiber. Then again you have so many other choices today for phone connections in your home. Cable, Fiber, Copper, Cell. tin cans and a string.

Where is Alexander Graham Bell now?

When I had Fios installed I had them draw down to a different and higher point on my house. Every once and so often a truck would take down my phone lines. I live in an older neghborhood and we still have everything including the brand new fiber up on phone poles.

The tech did not remove the copper connection, nor would I have allowed him to.

No telling if a truck comes along and rips it down again though.
