I had a small inexpensive mp3 player that I downloaded some of my cds to and it was fine for my purposes. I must have left if behind on my last vacation because I can't find it. I'm thinking of getting an ipod and have spent the morning on the computer checking out the differences.

I'll probably buy refurbished and have it limited to a nano and a classic. The classic has a hard drive and the nano has a flash drive. What is the difference and which is better?

I'm open to any suggestions anyone would like to offer. TIA

I have the Nano video 8 GB. You can get a brand new 4 GB one for around $149.00 now. A hard drive has more working parts and is usually larger than a flash drive. If you can afford the new Nano at $149.00, get it because refurbs on things this size are not that great. I love my Nano.

Thanks, Dianne. 2 people from OY told me that apple is making an announcement on Sept 9, so I'll wait until then.

Have you downloaded books or movies yet? Hard to do or hard to watch? TIA

I just remembered that my son purchased a Nano after he dropped his regular ipod and broke it. It is definitely smaller so I guess that has its good and bad points.

I'm contemplating this. Is it a good deal? Is the ipod video the same as the ipod classic? There are too many models for me to keep them straight.

              Update

I ordered the refurbished ipod 30 GB video from Woot. If I don't like it I have 90 days to return it. If I don't like it I'll get the Nano. If I can watch video on the plane without lugging ny portable dvd player, it will be worth it.

              Thanks all for your help.

Kay, I bought one, too, for middle DD--her bday is this month. I hope her little friends can help her figure it out, since I can't.

                  Wacky,
I'm sure your DD's friends will be able to help her. I'll have to get one of my Grand kids to help me. I'm going to start out downloading itunes, uploading my cd's and transferring them to my ipod. If that is successful, I'll try putting some pictures on , then purchasing tunes for itunes ,then either an audio book or a video. I find that I do best when I try 1 new thing at a time. My brain doesn't handle multitasking too well any more. Also if I do 1 at a time, I understand what I am doing and hopefully will be able to do it again.

I also don't want to spend a lot of money on itunes if I decide to send the ipod back.

I've been downloading shows from NPR.com for DH's SanDisk. I can't persuade it to take videos, though. And I was successfully getting audiobooks from our library, but then the SanDisk started rejecting the software. It's one more bit of technology that doesn't quite work the way it's supposed to. But when I whine about it, all my friends look at me pityingly and say, "Look, just get an iPod like the rest of the world. They're so easy!"

Just be sure to save your music after putting it on your ipod - just got back from a week in VA beach and took mine (4GB nano) into the hot tub with me,tried my best to save it Ex: kept it off for a few days, hair dryer ect..but no luck-the people at the apple store said it was fried but they would give me a credit to turn it in towards a new one for $100.00 bucks not a bad deal IMO.

Bluka, for next time...we were at a party over the summer where a guy jumped into the pool with his brand-new iPhone. He called Apple and they said to bury it in a large container of rice. I think you can also do something with rubbing alcohol to get the water out, before putting it in the rice.

That is very funny...imagine the sight of some dude looking for a container of rice for his wet iPhone.

Water + electronics = bad outcome
