Pahokee Mourns Slain Captain - AOL Sports

The High School I work at is located in Belle Glade. Two former students were charged with the murder.

A few months ago two young men were about to rob me after I had dropped off two students in my class. Another young man comes running over and says don't rob him don't you know him from school.

My friends ask me why I do it after spending 20 yrs actually doing police work. Everyday when I can help a student and make a difference I feel pretty good. This is the real world.

Just be careful.....and never drop your guard.

Even thought you are no longer in NYC, you can't have a sense of 'false' security.
Your news story proves that.

It is wonderful that u decided to become a teacher after your first career - it is certainly an under appreciated profession.

buff - I too work in a school. We never know who we cross paths with on a daily basis in what is suppose to be a safe harbor.

buff: I'm a retired school teacher that has seen a number of former students commit murder, go to prison, have lengthy prison terms. It breaks my heart!! But then there are the success stories....

P.S. Holland Christian, a near-by school has a former Belle Glade football coach who is doing a fantastic job in his first year in Michigan. Friend's nephew is their quarterback. Thanks for sending that coach our way!

Buff...I work in an alternative school where the kids all go through a metal detector and are all searched every single morning. Despite that, they find creative ways to bring stuff in...we have to be vigilant...and still I love my kids...

Sherry, Our Former coach Snead was under alot of pressure at our school to win championships. The community was hard on him. I knew he was coaching at a school in Michigan but wasn't sure where. He was actually drafted by the jets . His son is also an excellent athlete.

Connie, I always carried a pair of binoculars and made a few gun collars in Ny watching the kids hide their piece before going to school.

The most important thing I've learned as far as teaching is everyday is a new day. I don't hold grudges against the students if they curse me out or misbehave. Some don't have much at home.

buff: That's the coach at Holland Christian, and his son does play on their team....Couldn't remember his name.....

Holland Christian is undefeated so far this year, and far outscoring EVERY opponent . Everyone LOVES the new coach. Can't wait to talk to A.J. Westendorp, their quarterback (and his aunt). We are very happy to have your former coach in our area....
