  • Where to "roll" TSP

This is the year I am 70 1/2 so have to start drawing down $3000 each year and pay tax on it.

I'd like to roll my Thift Savings Plan into something else.

With the economy, is there anything worth getting involved with?

Robert I am far from being an expert but to me I would say we have hit the bottom and the stocks are as about as low as they can get. Now or in the next few days might be a good time to buy some stocks.

My G fund has steadily gained. Compared to Oct 2007, C fund has lost $1000 and the I fund is down 960.

Maybe just put it all in the G fund?

I see GM is running to market for the upper class. That's a downturn in my estimation.

Ford is trying to stay afloat and will probably do ok. They also do HUMVEE for Uncle so that helps so long as there's warring.

Finding something that gains will be difficult if the war machine downsizes.
That makes for lots of unemployment.

If you are thinking stocks, I agree with Big Frank, there are some real deals.

There are also some solid Mutual Funds. Don’t look at this last years performance but have had solid 10-15% returns over the past 10 years. As they recover you will grow with them, and have a great return in the future.

Robert, do you have a good financial adviser? They would be able to help you decide what to do with the money. Ours has been a great help to us when Gerry and I get our IRA money.

Robert, keep your money in the "G" Fund! All we do is make money like you but maybe just a little more & we have never lost any money in that fund nor will it ever lose any money, its very safe as you probably already know. Put all your TSP money in the G Fund as it ain't over yet since the Feds approved the "Bailout!

DH has been in the G fund for many years, earning his slow and steady 5%. I have been in the stock fund (403B) since 1999 and even before this latest crisis I was just about even with my contributions into it. I haven't even looked lately - too depressing.
