It's been a pretty poor summer all the way around. To wet and too cold. I wish we could send this weather to those poor people in Texas.

That's with many days over 100, some over 105 and some over 110.

That's running 3, and then 4, window ACs.

Previous summer bills with the heat pump, albeit older and inefficient perhaps, were $250-ish.
We still have not replaced our heat pump. Average high temp this cycle: 89. Current bill: $99.

        • I looked for a hot summer monthy bill postr, but this thread is more about heating in the winter, which we don't do any more, than coolling in the summer.

We still have not replaced our heat pump, and are cooling with 4 little 110 window units. I believe in fancy contemporary jargon that is called zoned cooling.

The average high for this bill's cicle was 100° exactly. Our house is still all-electric.

          This month's bill: $156.22.

          • Our Gas + Electric was $270. The killer was the water/sewer bill $288. Had to use the sprinkler system to save the grass. Funny thing is only about 100 was water, the rest was sewer. What a rip. Didn't use the sewer. So I called about a seperate water meter for the sprinkler system... $1,000 to install. I think brown grass will look just fine...

I looked through back bills and in 2010, when our heat pump was running and the average high was 95°, the bill was slightly higher.

Our water is from a shared well, so all I have to endure is the profanity of our neighbor for watering our lawn (yeah, they water theirs, too, and their garden). Everyone in the neighborhood waters theirs their yard from wells.

We are now, officially, in the worst drought in 50 years, which y'all will find out more about in the cost of stuff in the future.

Unrelated, but related to neighbors, we are in a 100% burn ban, including BBQ grills (boo!), and volunteer fire departments hereabouts have been taxed to the limits recently. One town is giving 5000 gallons of water, free, to anyone who has the ability to store it, to put fires out before they get outta hand. If they use it on a fire, they don't pay for it, and, that gets water out and about so it's ready to use.

Our neighbors, visiting from outastate, first had a great time with fireworks, then built a little bonfire pit, just a ring of rocks, surrounded, of course, by parched grass. They have a bonfire every night, after their BBQ, and leave the fire going briskly when they go to bed. The bonfire pit is about 50 feet from our house.

              • Had DD and 2 grands with me for over 2 weeks. Temps in 90's. With heat index it felt like 100-115. Elec - $78, Gas - $10.50. Gas is a minimum since it's only for my heat.

                • my electric bill for the Florida house, with the humidistat set, was $9. I called the neighbor to make sure it was running.

                  • Wierd, a month ago ours was $3, and I called the neighbor to go make sure our AC was on, set high. It is.

The highest high there so far this summer has been 89.

                    • Our heat pump/AC shot craps a few years ago, and we elected not to replace it (for $6000). We are not here in the Winter, so we winterize the house, and we cool (too) adequately with 5 window AC units ($500), which are almost always on this time of year.

Last month our electric bill was $123 and this month it is $110, very reasonable and less than the heat pump was.

Of course, when we sell the house, it will be with a new heat pump, if the buyer wants one.

Our most recent FL electric bill, with the AC set to run at about 80 degrees, was $32.
