I'm not 100 % positive. Originally, my DH wanted an LCD, but now that the plasmas seem to have improved, I'm not sure. I just know that it needs to be 52" inches.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Not 52 inchers, but Costco has 50" 1080P plasmas from both Panasonic and Samsung. The Panasonic is $1399, and the Sammy is $1599. Both can be see online. A lot of the reviews I've read claim Panasonic to be 2nd only to the way more expensive Pioneers in plasma TV's.

If anyone is looking for a 58 inch plasma, Amazon has a Samsung PN58A650 for $2670 with free delivery. When I went to check out they did not add any sales tax. This is $500 less than I have ever seen for this specific model.

Choosing a Plasma vs LCD depends a lot on how you intend to use it. If you will be playing any video games on it then you definitely should buy a LCD because the Plasmas have a problem with images burning in. On the other hand if you will be not playing video games and need a wide viewing angle then Plasma is the best choice. We have a LCD in the master bedroom because I play a lot of video games every day and we do view it pretty well straight on. We have a Plasma in the family room because we need the wide viewing angle and don't play video games on it.

Ok I did it.....bought it at the chain Paul's TV and it was delivered today. It's on the floor as it would not fit into my media niche and I was planning to mount it over the fireplace anyway. It will be an expensive install but well worth it I think. We also want one for the master bedroom but I am first going to test this one in the family room and see if the glare is an issue and if I like it....otherwise it gets moved to the master bedroom.

Just starting to work with it. First impression - wow the HD channels are nice. BUT the non-HD channels are terrible on the big screen.....I am very disappointed in this. Still trying to figure out how to adjust it.

Here is what I have in my system:

LG 50PG60 50" 1080P Plasma THX - package price $1,650 - this unit was close to top of line and has 4 HDMI, PC, and USB as well as THX.

            Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-Ray DVD - package price $249

Package included delivery (same day if I wanted), stand assembly, basic set-up, and remove old TV and recycle....all 'free'.

Total package with tax of $157 which includes E-waste disposal fee of $10: $2,056

            I already have:

Bose Lifestyle 30 Series II Home Theater System

            Microsoft XBox 360

            Cox Digital Cable

OMG I just watched the Lakers vs. Sixers last night on my plasma.....I was in heaven. HD is fantastic. WOW. Cox Cable gives the HD channels at no extra charge.....yeah baby.

So I go over to my in-laws to see how their Mitsubishi 65" DLP is looking as they just got it delivered same day as I did......they do not have any HD channels. I tried to help them on the phone with Dish Network and what a nightmare those people are. The call center took us to India and it was practically impossible to understand them nor get anything done. I had to get home to get the kids to bed and left my father in law on the phone on hold again trying to speak to a supervisor in the US.

Dish wants $200 to replace their existing non HD DVR with an HD enabled one and then they also charge more every month - Ripp Off.....although we could never get this information from the rep in India. My stubborn in-laws probably won't go for it......they buy a HDTV and now will watch the regular channels of it (which are fuzzy and poor quality compared to HD) for the next 16 months left on their existing Dish contract. They won't want to spend the extra money. Heck they got the TV with $600 'FREE' gas promo and it takes 24 months and a million hoops to get the $600 back at $25 a month.

Any idea's on the Dish network issue?

I bet DirecTV would be there this week to hook up everything for free....give them a call.

The one thing I did get from the India rep is that if they cancel the contract now it will cost them $225.........something like $14 a month for the rest of the term.

They should still be able to watch locals in HD. From what I've read, OTA HD is often better than cable or satellite HD due to the lack of compression (full bandwidth).

Just spoke to my father-in-law and he was able to negotiate a $75 cost for a change to the HD DVR box. That was better. Plus they charge $10 a month for HD channels. He went for it.

I had DirecTV with TIVO. Ahh, life was good.

Then comcast came along with internet and cable tv. I could drop my DSL with Sprint and would have more options for tv viewing. But alas...their recorder was the oposite of the TIVO. It was hard to operate and would fail. When my promotion ended, and the prices skyrocketed, it was time to have comcast for internet and go back to DirectV.

                          And then the problems started.
Had to have a new dish. The old dish is still on the roof, so I have two dishes.
Can't get TIVO any more, get the DirecTV DVR.
I am needing to do a hard reset about twice a month. It looses it's mind too often.
It has recorded a half hour show, and only 19 minutes are on the system. The beginning is there, the end is there but a chunk from the middle is missing.
I have more problems with this upgraded dish than I did with the old dish. Please-no snow or I won't see TV for days.

I am not a fan of DirecTV anymore. Or Comcast.

Our cable here in the Lo-Hud is CableVision and the Dolan family here. I dealt with them as an access supplier for AT&T, our entire Northeast Market NYC to Maine Signature accounts, for several years. Talk about the tail trying to wag the dog!!! Obnoxious doesn't begin to describe them.

Mr Dolan SR walked into his offices shortly after 9/11 and requested all american flags at cubicles be removed.

I will be in my grave before I will send them any money.

It seems like Angela and I are looking for about the same thing. 52 inches used mostly for sports, sitcoms and movies. No video games on this tv. Do you think it would be better to wait until just before the Super Bowl? Isn't that when you can really get the best deals?

We have Verizon FIOS TV. We love it and it is rated number ONE by Consumer's Reports. Another big plus is all their customer and technical service is located in the US.

In Fact we have Verizon FIOS for our TV, ISP, land-line phone.
