  • Q: Mustang - Air and Fuel Filters

Q: Quarterbore and/or anyone that owns a Mustang

Does the 01 Mustang have a Cabin Air Filtration System
Air Filter - Where it located - Is it easy to replace ?

    Cabin Air Filter

Many Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles built since 1995 are equipped with a Cabin Air Filtration System. The Cabin Air Filtration System filters outside air, which enters the passenger compartment through the vehicle's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Air entering the vehicle can contain millions of microscopic particles, such as dust, pollen and spores. The Cabin Air Filter removes more than 90% of these particles that are larger than 3 microns. How big is a micron? The average grain of beach sand measures about 200 microns.

When to Replace the Cabin Air Filter

The system's filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles, or once each year.
In especially dusty or polluted environments, the filter should be replaced more often.

Would also like to replace the fuel filter
Q: Where can we find the fuel filter
(Is it under the hood or under the car)

That sure is new to me! I don't have a late model mustang (we own a 1967 Mustang Convertible) but my daily driver is a 1997 Ford Expedition and while I couldn't find info on a filter like this for Mustangs I did find one for my UAV (Urban Assault Vehicle)

My best suggestion would be to call a Ford Dealer or an Auto Parts place... I do have a Mustang forum and you are welcome to post the question there but the forum is not very active at all...

It looks like the mustang may not have a cabin air filter (at least FRAM doesn't make one)...

      See: http://www.fram.com/products/airFilters.php#airFilters3

When I run my Expedition it says that I can only add the filter if a special Ford kit was installed... Good Luck!

        Cabin Filter and such

My 2002 Mercury Cougar Sport Ultimate does have a cabin filter. So does my 2001 BMW 325xi. Usually found under the hood at the firewall. Not difficult to replace. Good parts source in addition to those already mentioned:

(What does this have to do about timeshares, anyway?)

P.S. Fuel filter is under the vehicle. Messy job to replace...

Two years ago I sold my 1964 ½ mustang hardtop, I miss that car.
