  • looking for a special day

My 25th wedding anniversary falls mid week in June, I am planing a big trip to Europe in July but I wanted to do something out of the ordinary either in NY or near it or if I have to take a flight in the morning and come back the same day or the next day. Any romantic ideas.
A couple came to my mind take a limo to RI and stay at Castle Hill Inn & Resort | A Relais & Chateaux Property | Newport, Rhode Island which is one of my favorite places to go to but we have dined there a few times but never stayed. Next is Go to Florida and book my own private Island for a day, Lawren you still have that link? Another is to take a helicopter to Niagara falls or fly to Maine for Lobster which I do not eat. I was thinking of going to NOLA for a day as well. I am not sure if my wife can take off at that time of the year so I am hesitant on booking flights or doing any over nighters. In fact I am not even sure she will take off the one day.

    What do you suggest?

Also thinking a Balloon ride might be nice but if the weather is rain or windy that is out.

I wouldn't fly anywhere for one day.. too many hassles. A special spa/hotel overnight would be luxurious and less annoying. And I know you don't love the city, but you could do a day spa, a fine restaurant, and back to a nice hotel, followed by brunch.. There are a couple of very special places in the Berkshires... The Cranwell, and the Wheatleigh... very high end upscale, beautiful grounds and upscale dining at the Wheatleigh... Another romantic place with great food is the American Hotel in Sag Harbour; June would be a great time to go...

How about a quick trip to Quebec City, with an overnight at the Chateau Frontenac?

I love Mohonk Mountain House. And it's not too far away. The grounds are soooo beautiful.

              Frank,

I agree that flying for one day is just too much of a hassel. Take a limo to the city, and stay in a real plush hotel, have a fabulous dinner, see a show, and maybe a little shopping for something special.

Or, go to one of the spa's out east.....Only thing is that there really aren't any super plush hotels out there.

You could take a limo to wine country on the North Folk, and visit the wineries. There are a couple of nice places to stay out there. I did a designer showcase at the Jedediah Hawkins Inn.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I vote for couples spa day. I always thought that would be nice -- side by side massages -- and then enjoying lunch or dinner with a glass of wine. I've never been but there's a place here in Cleveland that does couples massages outside during nice weather.

Your not going to believe this but my close friend who is an actor that I had mentioned once before that was on the Montel show and is also my Sponsor for when I had my confirmation told me about this place last year. He took his wife there for an overnight when they got married. I had emailed him yesterday and he just replied that this is the place he told me about. I am putting this high on the list of where to go.

BTW I love to get a massage but my wife hates it, She likes getting Facials and Reflexology, As far as the winery's go we go to them every ear so it is nothing out of the ordinary.

We visited Mohonk Mountain House (for brunch) in the fall at prime leaf peeping time. It was fabulous. I have no idea what the rooms in that old of a place are like, though.

They have spa treatments--the spa is supposed to be lovely. The public areas of the building are magnificent, especially the dining room. And there's a lake outside for boating. There's a little pond where you can feed the carp--they jump right up out of the water. And the grounds are like a national park, only it's all private. You walk around and look out over the Hudson River, and it's like being in a Hudson River School painting. This is the one I always think of!

I just put a call to my wifes job and spoke to one of her friends. I should know in a day or two how much time they will give her. our anniversary is on a Tuesday so she needs Tuesday and Wednesday off but if I can get Monday then we can fly some where like that private Island Starting Friday or Saturday. We can also just relax and do the drive to either RI or Mohonk or Sag Harbor. Now that private Yacht has me thinking as well, Pat you seem to always come up with some great ideas, Because of you I am now thinking of adding in Monoco for a few days if I can get there from Paris and back to London with out trouble and skipping Amsterdam.
