Well, absolutely, but there is no reason to withhold human kindness in the process! We have some very nasty people that go out of their way to mess with people and I have a problem with that. I'm just lucky that I'm not a target!

There are a lot of changes going on where I work:
*Vacation has changed to PTO (personal time off). Okay, when I am out a week on ‘vacation’, call it PTO if you want. But other changes happened too.
*If you need to be gone for more than 2 hours, it comes out of PTO.
*If you were sick before, you didn’t get sick days, but still you could stay home and get better. Don’t come in and make other people sick. Now it comes out of PTO. So rather than use PTO, people come to work sick, spread it around and the company looses productivity.
*We used to have flex time, come in at 6:30 and leave at 3:00 or 3:30 depending on if you were hourly or salary. Worked great for those with kids. I would come in at 7:00 and out at 4:00. I could get home and make supper and do my online classes. Now everyone is supposed to work 8-5 unless there is a business reason to have a different schedule.
*You have an hour for lunch. If you leave the building, fine, you are at lunch, but if you are at your desk, they ask you to work.
Maybe these are common place at other companies, but it is such a big change where I work, and coming very quickly, it is discouraging. Well, that change and that I haven’t had a raise in 28 months. I guess it is better than a pay cut. My last meeting with the boss/owner, I was reminded that I could be replaced for a lot less money.
I just love coming here every day.Don

I am a CPA in the Chicagoland area and my office prepares approx 800 individual tax returns and 150 business return.
What I can tell you is that out of all the returns I prepared and clients I met with this year about 75% have been affected by this economy.
Many are living with one or both spouses unemployed. Others have had their pay cut and are working more hours and picking up the slack for their fellow co-workers that have been laid off.
There were very few people who weren't worried about job security or where their own business were heading.
Unemployment is over 9% in Illinois but I believe this is understated and doesn't include the people who have taken pay cuts and their unemployment benefits have run out

I have been posting BLS Branson unemployment figures on a Branson forum, which makes me quite unpopular there. The frequent users of that site is made of of Branson lovers who want nothing changed and never admit to anything being wrong with the place.
What the facts show is that there are about 3500 folks more than normal on unemployment, on top of about that number that have dropped out of the labor force altogether. Despite significant development the past five years, employment levels were actually higher 10 years ago.
Real estate sales are all but nonexistent, and at depressed prices. Of course, the RE people spin that to their favor, talking about what a great time it is to buy.
I picked up a local paper on the way to the airport because it had a story about one local county slashing millions of dollars from their road fund and the other local county not being able to get a second on their budget proposal.
I left that paper on the dash, so I didn't get to read it.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick
