I just received a JR Cigar catalog. and the front cover states "government passes 52.4% tax on cigars." According to the article inside, it is a $.35 per stick increase on those JR buys direct, and as much as $.70 on those they purchase from a wholesaler effective April 1. A local grocery chain had an add in yesterday paper that manufacturer increases up to $10/carton on cigarettes is effective today.

If I recall right, last week our local news said that the State of Arkansas added $.56 more tax per pack of cigarettes.

Also last week our local news reported that there is a Bill in the AR legislature to allow localities to vote to allow Sunday beer and liquor sales. The reporter that went to N. AR towns to do the story reported that there is no interest in doing that.

Some things are sacred in AR, such as Sunday. On Sunday they will keep coming to those Missouri border stores, buy a case, pop open a cold one, and head back home to watch Nascar.

Kentucky passed a 30-cent per pack increase a couple weeks ago.

My close friend that lives a few months in Florida and the rest of the time in NY, Normally brings up Cigs for $30 a carton, We spoke to him last night and he said it is now $40 a carton.

Not a 'real' cigar smoker, I have bought a couple and had a couple puffs. Don't cigars have a short shelf life? Don't they dry out or loose flavors with time? A fine wine gets more complex, I just see an old cigar as dry and stinky.

Am I way off?

I have fine cigars that are 10 years old and are great because I stay on top of my humidor. I have lost my share of Cigars for not staying on top of it. If a cigar is to fresh it will not burn right. Some Cigars need to age under the right conditions. If they dry out and not to bad they can come back with extra humdity but once the paper starts to crack

Huh, I didn't know that. Well...sometime this summer, when the wife is scrapbooking, I'll sit on the patio with a cheap cigar and nice wine. Next morning, I will taste old cheap cigar. This is why I only do that once a year or so.

OH No not a cheap cigar. It is not the same as a good long filler. Cheap Cigars are ment to be smoked asap.

There's also the problem of beetles- but I take care of that by cooling them down to 40F over the winter.
