Yes, I know how you feel, I paid more than my fair share of taxes this year, too. There were many years that I made less than I paid this year. Oh, well, guess that is the Great American Way. I am all for the Fair Tax Program

I did mine awhile ago, but had to pay so I am mailing it out today. We can't claim our daughter this year, even though she still costs us plenty! Good luck to all the late filers!

Years ago we decided it was cheaper to take our taxes to an accountant than to go through a divorce!!! Even though I thought I had everything in order for DH to do them...he didn't think I did and got pretty upset about it. Then the rules were changing, we had a big move and ...well, off to a tax person. So we had our taxes done a couple of weeks ago and are now waiting for our REFUND!!! I always overpay our estimated taxes hoping we will get a refund. We try to get the taxes done early, but if we have to pay, then we mail them at the last minute.

              Speaking of Taxes...

              Check this out...

I.R.S. Asks PayPal for Taxpayer Data
              By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON, April 11 (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service said Tuesday that it had won approval from a federal court to ask the online payment company PayPal to turn over information about people who may be evading taxes by hiding income in other countries.

A federal court in San Jose, Calif., gave the I.R.S. permission to ask PayPal for information on American taxpayers who have bank accounts, credit cards or debit cards issued by financial institutions in more than 30 countries that are reputed to be tax havens.

Amanda Pires, a PayPal spokeswoman, said Tuesday that the company had just received the summons. "We're still evaluating our options," she said. "The privacy of our customers' information is something we take really seriously."

PayPal enables individuals and businesses around the world to send and receive money online. The company, owned by eBay, has 100 million account holders globally, and it moved $27.5 billion in 2005.

The request for information is an outgrowth of an I.R.S. effort, begun several years ago, to trace money that American taxpayers hold offshore to avoid paying taxes. The I.R.S. said many of those taxpayers access their money through credit and debit cards. The tax collectors have already obtained information from some credit card companies, merchants and payment processors.

"PayPal is another one of the mechanisms by which money stashed overseas might be spent," Eileen J. O'Connor, assistant attorney general for the Justice Department tax division, said.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."
              -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

Also, the IRS plans to audit more taxpayers who earn over $100,000 a year.

I'll press a button on TurboTax later tonight, or perhaps tomorrow

I've made waiting until the last minute into an art form...

I just e-filed tonight. The tax system is so complicated now that I trust TurboTax more than I did my accountant. It's awesome that you can simply download transaction detail right into TurboTax and it automatically puts things in the right places.

I looked at all the forms that printed out and I have no clue what is actually says. I can't believe I used to hand write my taxes.

I still have my returns from back in the early 90's before I started using MacInTax and my 10 page depreciation schedules for all the stuff in the shop were just literally grueling. Can't believe I had the time to hand write all that stuff back then. As the son of an accountant, I always thought letting someone else do my taxes was some kind of blasphemy. Sure wish my dad had lived long enough to do my business taxes. I surely would've put him to work.

Well, I e-filed the state return Friday and mailed out the Fed. Saturday morning. I still remember that one year in the 70's when I dropped the tax return in the mail at 11:55 PM on the final day (after driving to the post office that stayed open for it).
