  • My Coffee Maker Bites the Dust

    My Norelco coffee maker shot craps the other day. I have had it 40 years and it made the fastest, bestest coffee. DW said it just stopped working.

    * * *

    Then, after first confiding with her coworkers, she admitted to me that she had forgotten to put water in it. When she realized it, she dumped cold water into the heated-up unit, and that did it in.

    * * *

    Oh well, I can't change it, you know, bring back my coffee maker, so I might as well keep her.

    I just got a new beautiful coffee maker by Cuisinart and it came with a stainless steel carafe. It's a wonderful thing.

        I just got a plug-in percolator and it makes me happy! The coffee is really strong and hot.

          So sorry for your loss.

          A moment of silence for the recently departed.......

          Mr. Coffee (AKA my "domestic partner") makes a decent cup o' Joe.

          Have you tried Ebay for a "classic" Norelco replacement ?
          Is this the one ? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Norelco-...3A1%7C294%3A50

            You could always go with an exploding Senseo.

                  I believe that's what we've got stuck away in the cupboard. DW doesn't want it sitting out cuz it's so big. She watches HGTV so kitchen countertop clutter is taboo.

                  Yeah, like my Norleco was so pretty sitting there!!!!

                    This is so funny! I don't care how little counterspace I have, I want my coffee maker at the ready....but I sure understand DW's need for space.

                      DW is a recent coffee convert.

                        I took our Gefalia out from hiding and found an innocuous location meeting the approval of our local Counter Cop.

                        Two thumbs up from us!!! More pluses than minuses.

                        It brews quickly, quietly, and good-tasting. The thermos-style caraffe keeps some degree of heat to the coffee for at least an hour, without a heater/burner bitterfying it.

                        The minuses . . . those who like their coffee scorching-hot would be disappointed . . . since we do not use our tap water , we have to measure a correct amount from our drinking water dispenser, and you cannot do that with the caraffe (so the pot from the Norelco lives on---retrieved from the garbage can ).

                          DW has decided the Gevalia has gotta go. It is inconvenient and messy cuz it does not pour well.

                            I'm sure by now Gevalia is giving a different/better one without the thermal carafe, and that they'd love to have you back...

                            yep, here ya go:

                              Just got back from a stay at our TS in Whistler. They have always had terrible coffee makers.

                              The new one they have now are great!! Hamilton beach coffee station. The coffee pot is inside the coffee maker so when the coffee is done, you place the cup under the outlet and push a button to dispense the coffee.

                              Clean, tidy and wife says good coffee.
