What are everyone's thoughts on the market going forward? Anyone have any good investment ideas?

It looks to me, from looking at the S&P500 chart, that we are about to have a major move, either up or down. If the $SPX clears the 200SMA, then the May and Jan highs (on volume) that a good rally may be in store and the bottom may be in. On the other hand, if the $SPX drops below the 50SMA, and then below 800, a retest of the March lows may occur. Either way, I'm expecting a quick sizable move. All subject to my being wrong, of course!

As I've posted elsewhere, I'm playing the major macroeconomic trends this year, and mostly avoiding individual equities. I'm long oil and gold, short the US dollar and long the Canadian dollar. I'm looking for good entries to go long the Australian dollar, and go short treasuries, unless things begin to change.

    Thoughts?????

Economic and political events will more or less direct the market for the next few months both up and down. My guess is that by September there will not be any great general change. I went back in shortly after the first of the year and am quite happy that I did.

I'm almost all back in but have a little still out for luck.

I own one precious metals fund that I dumped most of mid-last year, and have now re-entered. The fund was closed until the market crashed and now it's back open, so I wanted to get in before they closed it up again.

I like ETFs in principle, but since I don't watch things every second and am mostly a long-term investor (it's a 401k rollover), it probably doesn't matter that much to me whether I'm in an ETF or a mutual fund. I'm in one emerging markets ETF that I really like and just put some more into it. I own few individual stocks but always keep some money in a few companies that make products I think are indispensable, if there is such a thing. I got lucky last year by putting some money in the company that makes Lasik machines (EYE) whose stock had really tumbled. Two months later they were acquired by Alcon and the stock tripled. Unfortunately, I didn't invest that much, but it did help cover some of the losses I had in other areas.

Not much stock talk here of late. I keep looking for a great stock, but just can't pull the trigger on most I check out. I'm only down on one stock I've bought this year and only a few pennies there. I've been watching ETEN.OB up 0.16 today to 1.01, but just don't want to risk a bet that they will grab some market share from BD, monoject and Terumo. Then there's ICNB.OB if you think celebrity branded spirits will be the new rage. And how about chewing gum that relieves stress or another than helps you lose weight---VNTA.PK and I even gambled and bought some. Then there's the applications of DNA for commercial purposes at APDN.OB---maybe worth a gamble at only .11 a share- I bought a bit. Most of my portfolio tho is in good paying dividend stocks with a nice balance sheet, with a little Indian and Chinese investment here and there.

So---anyone got any hot tips ?
