How is the best way to get rid of moles? They are tearing up my back yard.

Most feed stores sell a poison (it's a powder placed on corn and seeds) that you can use. You find a fresh tunnel, and use a spike or screwdriver to make a small hole- insert the poisoned feed- and then cover the hole you made (careful not to make the tunnel cave in on itself)..

Be aware, you may have a little smell for a few days if you have a big infestation, but it's the most effective way I've found to control them in the area right around my house (amazing how quickly they can destroy a yard)..

    Good luck..

I've heard you can get the same results using Juicy Fruit Gum- only make sure you don't touch the gum with bare skin.

One of our neighbors killed them that way and I saw them dying in agonizing pain while going on an early walk. I bought an electronic gadget and they went away on their own after a few days.

My answer is Steffi. She can sure throw the dirt when she is going after a shrew (or mole or whatever it was-key word "was").

She looks so sweet and innocent in the picture, but a terror for small animals.

              Traps!

I've tried every method and the best that worked for me was traps. We used the scissor traps and found they worked the best. The harpoon ones didn't work at all. You could check out the videos on YouTube on moles and see instructional videos on how to set the traps.

              Happy Hunting!

treat your yard for grubs and the moles will head elsewhere looking for them.

I think that applies to volls (sp?), but moles usually eat plants (your grass and garden roots).

If you google moles, you will see that the moles diet mainly consist of earthworms. Next time I will try the poison worms that they sell. Looking out there on YouTube, a lot of the professionals use traps and the poison worm combination.

Thanks for all the help. I have over an acre of yard, but most of the moles are in 1/2 of it. I will start a mass attack against them using the methods you suggested.

                      Keep the ideas coming!

I think the gardner guy, Paul James, uses a caster oil product that can be spread with a broadcast spreader. The result is the critters do not like the caster oil and leave the area. He may have more info on it on HGTV website.

Do voles also tunnel? I was pretty sure our problem was moles, tunnels throughout the yard. treated for grubs a few years ago and they moved on.
