  • Any one use Auto-Owners Insurance Company?

We just got the shocking news that State Farm has dropped our Wisconsin home. the claim for a lightning strike that totalled our well did it, they went back 11 years and said we have too many claims. a total of $5000 in 22 years)
The hitch, it is a second home and most insurers won't insure a second home in Wisconsin. We have been getting no's all morning.
We have had State Farm 30 years in Illinois, 5 years before that for renters insurance, 22 years in Wisconsin, 6 years in Florida, plus three cars right now and hvae had 4 cars over the years.
We finally got an estimate from Auto Owners Insurance company and would actually save money. I guess we won't have any choice, but would like some input.
Also, if we switch our Wisconsin auto, we would save another $130 on the premium and also spend less on auto insurance. The other two cars are insured with State Farm in Florida and the homeowners in Florida was renewed for 2010. Our Florida State Farm agent was shocked when we told her the news.

It might be worth checking with your Florida agent and (if you feel this way) and tell her that you're looking to switch your Florida homeowners insurance because of the cancellation of the Wisconsin policy. Again, only if you're really considering it, but if what would make you happiest is to have all of your insurance with one company, then that is a possible lever.

Take the Auto-owners ins. co in Illinois, and keep the State Farm policy in Florida, Its not too easy to get homeowners in florida at a reasonable price, and insurance companys has 60 days to drop you with out cause, (new Policy) so if you switch in florida you are taking a risk, thats to me is not worht it

our second house is in Wisconsin.
I already called the insurance agent in Florida. If it wasn't for her we wouldn't have found anything at all. I have no threat value with State Farm, it is trying topull out of the state of Florida. There are no national companies except for State Farm in Florida.
wisconsin is only one of two states that can drop you for lightning damage.

Yeah, I thought State Farm, which is what we have, was pulling out of FL.

As far as Auto-Owners, I would have to look back, but I'm sure that's who we had through an independent agent back in our business days. If it was, they were horrible.

As an example, all of the houses on our cul de sac got new roofs after a hail storm. Our insurance company sent out an independent adjustor and he denied our claim. We fought them and they fought back. It was so ugly and unreasonable that our agent paid for our new roof himself.

I'm more than 90% sure it was Auto Owners.

If you want to check the record of an insurance company, the State of Missouri has a website where you can do that, check on the number of complaints.

auto insurers turned us down - two claims in three years. I specifically asked the agent if that would be a problem before I filed the claim for lightning damage, no he said, they would raise the deductible. Now we are worried we won't be able to find any insurance at all.
