Dry Cleaner Ruined Clothes - What to do?

I brought a jacket (worn once) to a dry cleaner. The jacket had a pattern on it in suede. Whatever the cleaner did, all of the suede was completely stripped off of the jacket. (Interestingly, the suede on the inside of the collar is still there so you can see what it looks like before.) They also shrunk the jacket.

I was supposed to wear the jacket to a wedding this weekend. It is not replaceable.

Is there any recourse?

Small claims court.

I think you can probably expect the cost of the jacket and not much more. I'd like to think you wouldn't have to fight the dry cleaner for at least that much. You might be a little hard pressed if you're thinking about pain and suffering over the loss of a jacket.

I would take the receipt for the purchase of the jacket in to the cleaner and request the cost of it plus the amount of the cleaning. Hopefully the owner/manager will be customer service oriented and at least pay for it so you can buy something else.

I have had that happen to me and the cleaners fully reimbursed be for the cost even though I no longer had the receipt. Price I requested was fair and to accomodate a long time customer they just paid for damaging garment.

When I brought my jacket that had leather on the collar they spotted that right away and said it needed to be sent out and a $25 cleaning fee. The person who took your jacket was I bet young and did not know better. If you use the cleaner ask for the manager / owner and see what they are willing to do for you. If the place is a place you use regularly I do not think either side wants to lose each other.
