    Frank,
I know that you have a son at a great & pricey college and that is a big factor here. Only you, Mrs. BF and your son know how far you can go on this.

Eye surgery will be expensive, but I think that $5k might be the highest end.
I know that you have superb Vet clinics in the NYC area, however, I know the folks at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, Ma. and could get someone to speak to you if you'd like. They have a good eye clinic there.

Sounds like you're doing very well at giving the shots. I had to give my late dog shots and a daily IV (in the "scruff" of her neck) and was nervous, so just know that being nervous is natural.

It's good that you're giving him a chance.

    Best,
    B.

I just gave him his 2nd shot and it went with out a hitch. I can deal with the shots although it will be a problem some times when I am out or away.

How well do you know them. If I have to I would bring him there if they took care of his eyes fairly cheap.

I'd start with a consultation visit to see what your options are and then you can make an informed decision.

You're a good person and will do the best that you can.

            It's so hard.

Wow it is amazing the different prices you get when you call around. $5.00 in NY. Your Westchester link was about 3 to $4000 . Then I went into PA and got $3000 and then $2500. I can take him any place so I do not mind traveling for a day or two with him. Still working on this and I never thought I would say this but If we can get it for less than $2,000 we might do it. Years ago I had said I would never spend that kind of money on a dog. Where is the soap.

In the past, I've made the decisions not to buy that new car, coat, bicycle, whatever (except timeshares ! ) and put it towards the giant Vet bill.

I've had more enjoyment having my dog(s) around than I would have from any of the aforementioned items. Of course, this works for me and again, I don't have tuition anymore.

Life is a trade-off at times.

Late edit: Let me know if you need one of my weeks if you select a Vet Eye Specialist near a timeshare. It's the least I could do.

Thanks Joy and Beags about offering to help out with a room but that is the last thing I would need. I would rather use price line than bother you guys. Besides Beags the links you gave me are help full enough. It is keeping me busy all day.

                          Frank,
An office visit is recommended and no "milking" there. They need to assess your dog's vision and who knows, maybe a non-surgical approach could be taken, although not likely, but maybe eye drops could be of help.

Go, pay the office fee at least for the second opinion.

                          J.

I know an office vist would have to happen prior to surgery but I would like to go to a place that can give me an up front price on surgery before hand so I can weed out the places that are way out of line, I just got a price of $3,000 for the surgery plus the first vist and staying over night and cost of meds after it will be about $3,500. This place was right near my SIL in VA so staying there would have been great.

Sounds very good considering all the "add ins" are included.

Wife feels for his age to spend this kind of money is not something we should do more so cause there is no way of knowing how well it will work. I think if I find a price around the $1500 range she would go for it. Problem is best price I could find so far is $2500 in PA. I am looking at this now Dog Cataracts – Treating Canine Cataracts I am wondering if this will work?
