Frank, before I'd buy something like that, I'd call my vet to see what he/she thinks. I just had cataract surgery myself (at age 56!) and it would have been nice if there were drops, but something like that was never mentioned.

Tuffy is close to being 12 but he still acts like a pup. I have noticed that we are bonding even more than before. He is staying with me in my arms with out trying to move out, He is doing so much better than I thought he would be doing. I am shocked to see how he is getting around. Today so far he has not walked into anything, Yesterday I saw him walk into the BBQ, Chair and inside the house white walls was a problem. He could be hanging out with me some 30 feet from the out side door. I asked him if he wanted to go outside. I was shocked to see him turn around do between the sofa and wall right to the kitchen up 1 step then walk to the next 2 steps and wait right in front of the door. I would never have guessed he was blind watching him after that. It just kills me when I look at him or when I see him having a problem and is confused.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Currently, the only approved method for cataracts is surgery, however, there are some clinical trials, however, not sure if they're in your area.

BTW I spoke to soon in my prior post my wife was home and the dog got all disorientated, He had problems finding us or the snap of her finger. He thought we were 180 degrees from him.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Luckily, we have not gone through this, but I certainly understand the feelings going on at this point in time. Steffi has had ongoing problems with bladder (stones were removed 5-1/2 years ago) and lots of problems with urinary infections. She is on special food to try to keep her flushed.
I am guessing that as the dog learns, the disorientation will be reduced. The senses will compensate for the missing sense/eye sight. It will likely take time.Don

another thought. when a humans sugar is out of balance, it can temporarily affect eyesight. possibly your dog's sight might improve a little when all is in tighter control?
If cataracts, well you are following that up already.
I find it so commendable that you love your dog so much. Hard decisions, to say the least.
In 2002, I lost my dog Disney Grace to cancer at 13. Had her since 8 weeks old. Very special creature. Always as active as a healthy puppy, until at 12 she started just stopping whatever she was doing and falling down. Had surgery (spleen removed) to remove cancer, took her a while to recoup. Four months later another surgery ($5000), hoping to give her at least another year of good life. She was then bumping into things and falling and crying. Absolutely breaking my heart every minute. She did not make it through the next week. My regret was not spending the money (we are by NO means rich), but rather what it had put her through. The vet is a neighbor, and I think he was trying to buy me time to deal with the loss. It was a very hard blow.

I feed my dog 2 times a day 12 hours apart around 1am and pm, Then I give him a shot 15 min after. Tonight my dog was laying about 2 feet from me but we were not on good terms cause he peed on the floor which was a sign cause my dog is good. Any way it was time to eat and I said come on Tuffy time to eat. He had a real bad Seizure, foaming at the mouth, Peeing all over the area he was at. I thought he was gone since he was not responding but I saw he was still breathing. I did not think he was going to make it when I ran up the stairs to wake my wife out of bed. When I came down he was no longer shacking but barely breathing, He looked like he was dead as I tried to move him. Then about 2 minutes later he picked up his head slightly. I called the vet even though I knew they were closed but thank god I got placed to an Emergency clinic with in Seconds. They told me that most likely his blood sugar was to low and to give him pancake or Karo Syrup. That might have saved his life. he got up and stumbled but licked a plate with about 2 table spoons of Syrup on it, He stumbled again right after but I could see he was coming back a little. He is sleeping now I did not think he was going to make it threw the night and I still do not know. Right now he has a pillow under him a Cushy blanket over the pillow and I wrapped him in another blanket. He is resting now. I plan on sleeping in the basement with him, Wait Good news he just lifted his head, Oh well back down it went.
Edited to add: A few minutes after posting this, Tuffy lifted his head and I gave him a few treats he started moving a bit and he is now walking around a bit clumsy but doing much better. So much better that it looks like I might be going to bed after all rather than spend the night with him. Wow he just put his paws on the sofa where I am sitting. I guess he is trying to tell me he is better. Every time I am done writing he does something else now he just peed on the floor again.
My son comes home in 2 weeks for winter recess. All I want for Christmas is to have this dog make it for at least 6 more weeks while my son is home.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms
