  • New Computer?

OK, so I have decided it's finally time to send Ole POC to that toxic city in China where all our old electronics stuff illegally winds up.

I have a bunch of stuff, like in Works, AOL filing cabinet, My Documents, etc., that I need to transfer forward from WIN 95.

How hard is that gonna be?

    Thanks

I would go with a processor of 2.5 ghz or more, preferably with a dual core (tri or quad core would be even better). Be sure to get windows 7 and not Vista. I'm looking to get a new one myself, but 3 computers are still operating here with windows xp. It might be a good idea to throw out some of the stuff you no longer need (think of it as a periodic splatter edit ).

Why is everyone (other than Mac) so high on WIN7?

Has there been enough time to determine it is not as crappy as others have been?

Any more ideas on how to get my old stuff into its new place? It's off-season so I have free time until Spring training starts.

You might want to look at compatibility: Windows 7 Compatibility Center home

Yesterday DW asked if I was watching for computer deals. I said yeah cuz I know that's easiest and smartest, but what I really meant is yeah, once I figure out how to save stuff forward.

An option I use for some storage and transferring files is multiple free email accounts with high storage capacity. I'll bet your hard disk isn't very big and that all your data storage would fit in one of my e-mail accounts. If you don't have CD/DVD ability, you could transfer things to a computer that does and then put the data on cd/dvd for transfer to a future computer.

So- put your documents etc. on CD.. Wait, don't you already have backup CD's or are you playing the dangerous game of no back up?

Put your data on CD's like others have said and you should be able to transfer them to your new PC without much trouble.
The only problem you may have is that you may have some programs that created some of the data you have that will no longer be compatible with your new operating system.
On Win 7, my understanding is that most testers and others that have it like it and are impressed with it's features and that it seems to work pretty well.
It's got to be better than Vista,,, right??? lol
