Just bought the Acer Netbook Package on Woot : One Day, One Deal (SM).

They show up every once in a while. The package I bought included the 10 inch screen, a DVD drive and other accessories.

We just bought an Acer Aspire from Walmart online for $286 (it's not really on sale, that's the price), 6-hr battery, free shipping - it arrived yesterday, and so far we like it a lot. Very bright screen, like the keyboard etc.

None so far for us - depends on why you're buying one.

We bought this for pared-down air travel, so I think a polartec jacket or sweater (we'd already be packing 1 or 2 of those) can cushion it, and probably we don't want/need the weight of a DVD drive. (We already have a couple of full-size notebooks for other uses.) I guess we'll see as we go along.

bought one of those Asus netbooks last year

the 900 series for $178 freight included from that site that Frank is always talking about. It is small, no external drive, comes with wifi or eithernet, it works just great for trips, I used it a lot during our ordeal in San Diego.
Just depends upon what you want it to do, I used it for email and keeping auctions and such going, your use may be different.

proceser is a bit slow and it is using XP

I went to Walmart (among others) today---it was $298, and they didn't have the purple netbook that was listed on-line (I think Lynne would like the purple one).

The clerk, ----sorry to add my commentary here; but in typical Walmart fashion added, something to the effect that-------- ...some Walmart stores may have different pricing than others, and that might not be the same as the on-line price.....

By the way, if you have a Capital One credit card, you get a free bonus mile for every dollar spent on electronics at walmart online (if you go in thru the Cap One portal)... I know this because I'm trying to pay for some transatlantic airline tix. (I'm not promoting Walmart, and don't like them generally, and try to shop elsewhere as a rule....)

I tried BOTH sites:
Capital One and
Walmart

I saw no way to access additional points/miles.

You go in thru Cap One - go to Capital One Credit Cards, Banking, Auto Loans, Checking and Savings Accounts, and Small Business Credit Cards and set up an online acct, w/username and pw. Then click on credit cards, rewards, earn more rewards... which isn't working this am for some reason, from the IE browser on the new netbook - hmmm...

But when it works, it shows a list of vendors offering bonus miles, and start scrolling for offers. Click on walmart, the right below it click on the link to shop.

Other offers were Sears online (5 bonus miles per $, we took advantage of this one), home depot online (3 per $), walmart was 4 per $ except electronics, just 1.

I'll repost later, don't know if it's the Cap One site or this netbook browser.

Turns out it's the netbook's browser setting, not the Cap One website, and I can't seem to reset whatever privacy setting is blocking this - maybe not such a good advertisement for the netbook, but we'll probably figure it out at some point. (I know it's the setting on the new netbook because our the other computers have no trouble getting to it the normal way.)

But here's a workaround, if you have the same problem: go to redeem awards, then near bottom left-hand corner is Earn more rewards - browse merchants - click - all retailers tab.

Hope that helps - there are tons of ways to earn lots more Cap One miles, wish I'd realized this years ago.
