  • LOTs of Questions!!! (Now that I have a new Netbook)

OK---the Purple Acer through Woot came---I've been a week deciding how to communicate with it---It's like a martian has moved into my house

I have made several phone calls, that have resulted in:
----I am finally able to use my 'martian' to access the internet.

----I have only a 3-cell battery; I was mistaken that it came with a 6-cell (that one was an offering at a higher price/different site). All in all, that's ok though, because we usually plug into a power source.

----My warranty comes by way of the reurbishment company, not via Acer, not via Woot.

----I have Windows "Works"; so I'll have to decide later whether or not to get Word (Office)

Now, I'll refer to you guys to help me with some other topics. I suspect as one question gets answered, I may add another for the next few weeks!!!

What is the best screen resolution, and how would I change it? I had gotten a message in Microsoft Works that the resolution is set below the recommended 1024 X 768---some elements may not display correctly.
When I type a Document, only about two inches of the screen is visible/readable. I can MINIMIZE it, but it apparently is at its Maximum---how could I make it LARGER (so that the document is the same size as the screen)?

I have read in the past about people deleting programs/apllications that are pre-loaded------what are the ones to look to delete?
The icons on my screen are
    Netflix
    Norton Online
    ebay
    McAfee Security
    Microsoft Office 60 day trial
    Acer Games

Do I delete all of these, except the Acer Games?
If there is a need to delete these, do I do this via "Uninstall Programs"?

Also, if I go to Start, and All Programs; there are several options there, including "Accessories", "Egis Tec", "eSobi v2" and some of these have choices within---too many to list---are there things in there that I should delete?

There is an icon at the bottom of the screen for "Windows Media Player"---is it loaded, or do I/should I load it?

The thing is certainly 'cute'; I do notice that the internet speed is a bit slower than my Desktop and Laptop----that's 'normal', right?

Finally, I plan to download AVG (for virus protection)---

What other Applications would YOU download??
(this netbook will be used mostly for travel for only internet and documents)

    Thanks so much!!
    Pat

p.s. my wife LOVES the PURLE!!!

I will try to answer some of your questions. Don't have answers for all but I'll put my answer in red after the question below:

You can change resolution by going to start menu and bringing up Controo Panel, then choose Display and then the Settings tab where you will find a slider to change screen resolution.
For making the document window larger see if you can grab the top or bottom and drag it bigger and if not you can look and see what tool bars you may have loaded at the top such as Google Tools etc and close them as they take up real estate on screen

The quick answer is "depends". Not a very good answer but it depends on if you are going to use them or not. (ie if you don't belong to Netflix and don't use it uninstall it, same with ebay. Norton Online and McAfee Security you should check to see if they actually came with you purchase or are just trials that you need to buy to use. If McAfee is real and already paid for you can use that for your security (virus scan and firewall) and don't need to down AVG for virus scann unless that is really what you want to use.
If there is a need to delete these, do I do this via "Uninstall Programs"?
Yes you can delete them via Uninstall Programs in most cases.

Also, if I go to Start, and All Programs; there are several options there, including "Accessories", "Egis Tec", "eSobi v2" and some of these have choices within---too many to list---are there things in there that I should delete?
    Don't have answer.

Keep it, it is just an icon in your system tray at bottom and can be used to start Windows Media Player when you want to use it.

The thing is certainly 'cute'; I do notice that the internet speed is a bit slower than my Desktop and Laptop----that's 'normal', right?
I don't really see why it should slower on internet unless you are using it wireless and your desktop wired

Finally, I plan to download AVG (for virus protection)---

What other Applications would YOU download??

Again this will really depend on what you want to use it for

    Thanks so much!!

I looked at these and then decided not to buy and still kind of think I should have bought. I have kind of decided to buy the ACER at some point as I want a netbook for travel and like what I see of them.
I was a bit afraid of the refurbished status of these as I don know much about refurbished boxes. Please let us know how this one works out for you.
