Is anyone else having this being force on them? Every time we log on to DW's LT, it tries.

It tried to install while she was on yesterday . . . cuz she does not know to stop it.

It appears it got half-done. :rolleyes

The reason I ask is that some versions of AVG are not updateable, and I have not received that message about 2010. It has been updating and if it continues, I don't see any reason to put any more humongous AVG in.

Also, now when we log on we get a Windows alert that we do not have any virus protection.

When I google, the AVG green checkmarks are gone.

I don't see it in our program list.

Did AVG 2010 uninstall itself?

I think what you have is a virus. I got this a couple of years ago and it was a pain in the neck to get rid of. If no one else comes back with any suggestions, I would do a google search on it and you might get some clues how to clean out your system.

I get a pop up saying to upgrade to avg 2011.

In your case someone must have hit upgrade and it did an uninstall first with out compleating the upgrade.


IMO go download a fresh copy on Cnet or download.com and see if that helps

+1, I agree with Frank. I have it installed on two computers and on one of the installs, I had to re-install.

Also, rather annoying, but for the first several times when the program updated the data file for new viruses, it would require a re-boot--haven't had that happen in a while now.

I agree with Franks suggestion. Don't think this is a virus as AVG is legitimate virus software. I have used the free one and it is pretty good but keeps prompting to upgrade.

I agree with those who agree with BF. I agreed with BF, and those who agree with BF, even before I knew what BF thought.

I believe DW activated the install, as she is prone to do when the computer tells her to do stuff, and that all that got done was to uninstall 2010.

That makes it simple. It doesn't matter if 2010 is still updatable.

Well, at least I don't have to worry about the uninstall part.

Do you have a virus scanner installed? If not, I recommend Norton or Kaspersky... it may be too late. You can go to their web site and download a free 30 day trial. I've had the best success at finding these things (and cleaning) with Kaspersky. You may be best off by doing a complete restore (with the format option). Regardless, backup all your data. Programs can always be replaced.

I'm going to assume you've gone into Control Panel and tried to uninstall the AVG program... right? That's the first thing I'd try. I don't think that will solve it, but that's the easiest thing to try first.

The AVG free version has pretty good reviews (for a free virus program). However, if you have to buy one, look elsewhere. There are far better choices. There is also a virus that appears as AVG. That sounds like what JLB is struggling with and I'll bet it will only get worse.

Do you know what type of AVG you have? The free version?

Again, if you want to get rid of it completely, I'd recommend uninstalling the program (from Control Panel) and then downloading and running Kaspersky's virus scanner. There are lots of good virus detection programs out there. I'm not saying there are only one or two good choices, just what I recommend. Next, I would also highly recommend paying for a program like Kaspersky or Norton. Norton is very user friendly.

If you open a lot of unknown links in Google, you are very open to getting one of these virus issues. And a lot of the times, the only resolution is to wipe out your hard drive and reinstall your recovery disk or recovery program. Make sure you back up your data files and pictures first!
