Computer question and a question about Skype

I have been trying to update Acrobat Reader and now I am trying to install Skype on the Dell PC but I keep receiving the same error message for both that reads as follows:

Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.

I installed Skype on the iMac. Is it possible to make phone calls from Mexico to the USA and visa versa? Do we need one or two Skype accounts?

I find all the information calling from the USA on the Skype webpage but not calling from Mexico to here.

I have one Europe based Skype account and one in the US and call between the two. You will need two accounts to do the Skype to Skype free calls when family members happen to be in the states. My Europe account is priced in Euros and my US account in dollars, and we also use both of those to make Skype to phone calls, and for those only one Skype account is necessary. I once accidentally signed into my Europe Skype account while I was in the states and the call went through, so apparently you can call on any Skype account no matter where you are.

Thanks, Steve. I still haven't been able to download Skype on the Dell but will try again tomorrow. I will call Dell, if I have to. I just tried to update iTunes on the Dell and that failed also.

I recently changed Panda Internet Security to ESET and I downloaded Windows Live. I had special settings in Panda IS and they may have been altered by ESET. I wished they would make it simple.

Skype should work on a Dell. My employer uses only Dells and we use Skype a lot. Not only is an international Skype to Skype call free, but it is more secure. While there are recent rumors that the Russian FSB can now crack Skype, most intelligence agencies cannot.

My family uses Skype on a variety of different computers and had no problems downloading it. I think there must be a problem with that computer.

Sounds to me like there is a problem of some kind with that specific computer.
There bshould be no problem with installing Skype on any particular brand of PC and the fact that you have problems installing other stuff points to that also.
You should have no problems making skype calls from Mexico and will probably need 2 accounts.

%APPDATA% is a Windows environment variable.

Could you start a DOS window and enter the following:
ECHO %APPDATA% and press the enter key

You should get message back something like this:
C:\Users\(myname)\AppData\Roaming

If you are not getting anything back like the above, then the issue is that the APPDATA variable is not set for some reason.

Another thing that could cause this issue is a lack of permissions on your computer.

Can you right-click the installer program and "Run As..." and run as an Administrator? Sometimes (depending on the version of Windows) the user account cannot access everything needed for the installation, so an Administrator has to run the installer.

I finally got it resolved but had to call Dell Support. Of course, they recommended reformatting the computer to the factor settings but I asked for a Sr. Tech. All in all it must have taken over ten hours in three sessions to get it to work.

Skype works like a charm. What is better between the US and Mexico or visa versa? Skype or Magick Jack? TIA

Well, I am not sure about Mexico,
check the website or call Magic Jack, 1-800....
All I know, mine is 941...Florida phone# and I was in Europe, Hungary
for a month, just got back.
I was calling for absolutely free to Canada and US, land line.
Not like SKYPE. PC-to PC...and than you pay per minute for SKYPE to land line.
$20 to buy magic jack and $20 for the annual fee.
Unlimited phone calls.
From Hungary I was checking my voice mail here in Canada on
my Mag Jack with lap top and was receving messages on my Mag Jack #
too.
No hussle and bussle or what ever....
