  • Online Computer Back-up

Do you use an online computer back-up service to back-up your computer? If so, which one and what do you think about it?

I would go get an external hard drive and back up what you want into that.

We use Carbonite on all three computers (2 PCs and a Mac). When we were in Mexico, we needed a file that was on our computer at home. Carbonite let you access that file so I got it on my notebook there. We really like it.

That is interesting, You can also access your home computer files by opening up the port to allow sharing with your lap top. Never thought of doing that before now.

You probably can but I wouldn't know how to do this and I wouldn't trust it either from Mexico. Carbonite is not expensive and it is unlimited too. I am not a shill.

I use carbonite too and am happy with it. Before Carbonite I lost alot of data and pictures due to a hard drive crash. We had an external hard drive and did not find it easy to use. Carbonite backs up daily automatically. It was also very handy when I got a new laptop. It transferred everything and I didn't have to do anything. YMMV.

DW and I each have one of the small portable external 'passport' drives. However, I keep suggesting to her that she get the Carbonite backup. As a teacher, her tests and teaching documents are on her home computer and are important. She is not good about manually backing up her computer onto the passport, so she still is in danger of loosing a lot of data. Carbonite would take care of that problem.

What does the online back up cost. Is there a link to the site? My wifes computer and mine are acting up so it might pay for me just to have it right now in case some thing should happen now.

Are there any other online back up companies that give a discount for having 3 computers?
