I doubt that you have a problem with the printer hardware as you said it did print out what you had in the queue. When you said that it wouldn't print just what do you mean? Did it just do nothing or did the paper feed out but the page was blank?

If the page came out blank then the likely culprit is the the ink cartridge. The ink dries out of you don't use the printer very much. What does your printer software show for ink levels? If the ink level is too low then the printer won't do anything and you should have a warning displayed. If the ink levels show OK and it prints a blank page then the ink has probably dried out.

If none of the above applies then you probably have a software or setup problem. Most printers have software that you install. I am not talking about the driver. There should have been a CD that came with the printer.

You should go to the web site for your printer manufacturer and see what you can find out. They may have a troubleshooting forum or on-line help.

I have 5 different printers of different brands and ages.

it goes to the printing queue, if you open the queue it says it is printing, but it never makes the printing sound and it never comes out. i should have the CD, but i have not been able to locate it. when I run the troubleshooter, it says that it didn't print because something in the queue is stopping it.
We came home from 7 months in florida, then had company for the weekend, then left to babysit for 8 days, then have 9 people visiting for weekend, loaded with doctor appts all week and leave for timeshare on Friday. So i will try to search for that disk, but a whole folder of disks seems to be missing, looked for them in Florida but thought I left them here, not finding them here also. going to have to get to library to print RCI confirmation , never got the approval form printed to have my MRI sent to doctor here and now won't have it for Wed appt.

So it never actually printed anything. From your other post, I assumed that it did print what was in the queue.

I did a search for "HP deskjet 3600 Windows 7 problems" and it showed several links to problems with this printer and Windows 7.

Here is one of the links that may help you. There are a lot more links for this problem.

HP Deskjet 3600 (3647) series driver (Solution!) - Windows 7 Forums

            Hopefully this will help you.

for some reason, it printed this thread, don't remember hitting the print command, printed nothing else. can't find the disk, did find some other disks i had been looking for. getting pretty frustrated.

I have gone through all the steps on that page, but the test page never prints, stays in the queue with printing next to it.

To end the annoyance, throw the thing out the window and go buy a new one. The cost is minimal and you'll have fresh ink.
