  • WD or ROKU

I am considering to purchase a media hub....
Can not decide between ROKU or WD
Cosidering, I am in Canada, they both have limited access to online media...
like Netflix, Panderra (not availeable in Canada.) and so on....
I would like to gather all my laptops and desktops on one device,
watch my pics and movies, also take the device with me when traveling, several times a year.
    Any recommendation, please.
    Thank you.

I have a roku and use it quite often mostly for streaming movies and television. It is small and very portable which I like for travel. I do not know anything about the WD.

I am interested in the ROKU and was wondering if it will work with my wireless - I have an older G wireless. Also, does anyone have any experience with HDMI boxes? I have two HDMI connections to my TV and both of them are being used, so I thought I could get a splitter for one of the users and share the DVD with the ROKU connection.

I can help with this one. We also have a wireless G network, and we got the low-end Roku at first. It didn't work and their customer service didn't seem able to figure out why (they wanted us to unhook everything from our router and start from the ground up!).

But when you look at the Roku website, they have a chart that shows which models have wireless G AND wireless N capability. (My DH figured out that the network was the problem.) We sent back the low-end Roku and stepped up a notch or two to get one that had both capabilities. After that, smooth sailing. We love our Roku!

Here's the chart. Now it seems that even the least expensive Roku has B/G/N capability.

I have a Roku. It works wirelessly in Florida, but in Wisconsin Dells, even though I have wireless, I have to connect it with an ethernet cable to stream to my TV. it is small and easily portable.

Since I had never heard of WD, I had to check it out.
WD is Western Digital, normally associated with computer hard drives. They have a device similar to the Roku, but from my quick scan, it looks to be less services available to the WD.

I have a Roku, and do like it.
