  • Lockup

This only happens on the LT I inherited from DW.

I will be typing along at my normal speed of light when I feel I hit a key wrong, not solid. The little drop-down window appears that says, "Copy, Paste, etc.", only the computer is locked up. Can't move the cursor to select anything and no keys work.

I have to manually shut down with the expected results.

    What am I hitting?

What program are you using? Word?

I right now can't think what key would do that. Are you possible up near an F Key? The F1 key is help on a lot of programs, but it wouldn't do that. Maybe one of the others may do that.

Instead of shutting down, try hitting the Windows key to get out of it. I know it's happened to me before too. I thought maybe I'd hit 2 keys at once, or slid over the mouse while typing.

It happens when I'm posting on forums, composing email, etc. I'm not near the F keys.

I'm down lower and just hit a key on the edge or something and . . . lock-up.

it's not that bad, i got arrest for DWI on a Saturday night a couple years ago and had had to sit in lockup for 3 nights...it was a holiday weekend...if you keep to yourself and look angry....no one will bother you

I am wondering if you are hitting the Alt key. It may be that you are hitting it with another key that is causing the lockup problem. If it was a desktop, you could remove the key to see if the problem goes away, but I don't know if your laptop has removable keys, most don't.

Try pressing the Alt key if it does it again, maybe it will get you out of it. I think someone earlier offered a suggestion that sounds like a good fix too.

You might try disabling the touch pad. Tho I do not recall that ever being a problem with my LT, it does screw up what one is keying in from time to time.

If I can remember the next time I do it, I'll try the alt key.

It's still doing it. It gives that little pop-up window that says "Copy, Paste, Yada, Yada, Close". The hourglass is spinning, but nothing reacts.

I have learned that if I rightclick down below, then close it there, I can close the session. I get the microsoft error report window. When I close it, I can open Internet again and it says my last session was suddenly ended and would I like to restart it?

If I was in the process of composing a post, which I am most of the time I am on the Internet, it gives me the reply page, minus whatever I had written.

It only happens on this LT, and has never happened on any other computer/keyboard.

                    More.

Actually, the computer does not lock up . . . just the window that is open, and that little hourglass is spinning.

I can minimize that window and open a new one. Then, if I happen to be composing something on it, I can hit whatever I hit, or hit wrong, and lock it up too.

                    I just did . . . locked up TS4Ms and an email.

                    I'm good.

It just happened again and this time I did CAD.

I deleted Iexplore, got a message that it would restore the lost tab, and it went right back to where I was.

                      Just sayin'

                        It is continuing to happen.

What I am doing now is just opening another window and going to wherever I was . . . almost always in the middle of composing a post. That is the case right now.

I finish my browsing, then close everything out.

I have not found a way to continue in the window where it happens.

This has become so frequent, and frustrating, that now I try to remember to keep another window open, so I can switch to it when it locks up. Again, it is when I don't hit a key square-on. Not every time, just some times.

I can't remember if I have or not. I'll try, if I remember.
