  • Update on dead computer

Took computer to Staples Saturday afternoon. Diagnostics $70. I okd that. Staples called me Sunday night to say it was the power supply. I okd a new one . Picked it up tonight. Total bill $123.58. Very happy with that. Hopefully a couple years before I need a new one. Will connect it tomorrow. Thanks for all the suggestions,

Be sure your computer has room to breath abd make sure that the fan does not have dust on the screen, This will help keep it cool

I still recommend an uninterpretable power supply (UPS).

Simply plug your computer and monitor into the backup plugs side of the UPS and printer or other equipment into the filter plugs side of the UPS.

Not only does it filter the line power, but it also has a battery back up to allow you time to finish what you are working on and safely shut down your computer.

Thank goodness, it was only the power supply and you didn't lose any data either.

When California had the many brown-outs one year, we had no choice but to buy the UPS units so it wouldn't hurt computer or other electronic equipment and we have replaced them again since then and will always have it now. It is cheap insurance. We have too many power interruptions too so it will close everything down safely.

I got it back together except for 2cords. One I think goes into the router (for wireless) but don't know if it goes into hole #1, 2, or 3.

The other one has a green pinchy thing ((life a telephone cord) that I have no idea where it goes. The computer goes on but the wireless mouse doesn't move. Can't find anything on back of mouse gadget but I'll bet it goes someplace. I'll have to email to one of my sons to see if he can help me by email. DH doesn't know computer hook ups.

Doesn't matter which router port # you use. If your laptop is wireless capable, you don't need to plug anything in. The cord is for when you go places that only have hard wire internet.

Bet somewhere you have a usb plug-in stick for the wireless mouse. Some mice have a place to store them underneath. Mine is so compact it stays in the laptop.

Got me on the green phone cord.
