My daughter is a camera techie. She bought the first waterproof olympus. The new olympus (I have one for work) does not take great pictures.

Last year we replaced her Olympus with a canon underwater camera.

This is the review that helped us decide. (the link is for the last page but you can go through all the pages.)
'Waterproof' Camera Group Test (Q2 2009) Review: 17. Conclusions and ratings: Digital Photography Review

At the time, I do not think they reviewed or included the nikon but they have reviewed it since.

DD loves her canon btw...it takes beautiful pictures and she is very happy with it. It is her "fun" camera....she also uses a canon when is doing more serious work.

This summer we bought DH a sony cybershot to replace his digital elf that was stolen. It is also waterproof/shickproof, has a large touchscreen and carl Zeiss lens....it does not have gps. He likes it because it takes great pictures, is easy to use and is very compact.

I have the Olympus Stylus Tough 3000 - they have two/three models past mine.
I like it very much and think it takes great photos.

I have a Disney Cruise Friend who travels all over the world - he was showing me gorgeous pictures on his iPhone from a trip to Australia of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and then snorkeling photos of a turtle up close.

When I asked him what camera he had used, it was the Tough 3000.
