What is the best low cost tablet on the Market, in your opinion? Is the Amazon Kindle Fire a good one for older children (ages 15 & 18) that want to read ebooks and do things on the net?

Thanks for the information. I called my daughter in Missouri and she is going to go to their Walmart and see if that offer is good for them. That is a great deal and if it is still on they can use the $50 for charger and cover.

I have a Kindle Fire that I received as a Christmas Gift after asking for it. I love the Kindle Fire. It does everything I want from a tablet.
It comes preloaded with some apps and you can get a lot more for free from Amazon.
My reasons for wanting it was to get my emails when away from home, read books, check sports, check financial, etc, and generally surf the net. I can keep up with timeshare forums and other forums I participate on. I don't do it, but you can stream movies, etc. The Kindle Fire does all those things well and has a clear color display. I have already read 4 books that were free from Amazon including the new book "Moneyball".
I also have Amazon Prime which I strongly recommend. The benefits far out weigh the cost of $79 for the year. You get a free month when you buy the Kindle Fire.
The email App is very good. You can use it for yahoo, etc. as well as POP3. I use the POP3 because my ISP is my email server.
To me, the Kindle Fire is what a tablet should be. It is portable, low cost, and does what one should expect from a tablet. The iPad is not very portable and costs more than a good laptop. Bear in mind the Kindle Fire is wi-fi only so you can't use it like a smart phone. If you want 3G/4G then get a smart phone. Personally, I don't want a smart phone as being connected all the time is not important to me. The Kindle Fire is perfect because I don't have to pay any monthly fee for a data plan and it does exactly what I want. There is wi-fi available just about everywhere.John

Be sure to read the thread on Kindel vs. Kindel Fire. As I said on that thread, we each have Kindels and we had a Kindel Fire, which we hated. For us, it had few of the advantages of the Kindel or a tablet. We purchased an Acer tablet about the same size as the Fire, and we love it. (I wrote a bunch more on the other thread.)
I think you have to try them at the store and see what seems to work for you because lots of people love the Fire, and according to an article I read, lots of people hated them and returned them, as we did. I have the Kindle Fire and I like it. I wanted something small like a book that I could carry in my purse if I wanted to. I can also read in bed with it with the lights out since it's back lit. And being able to check out library books from my local libraries for free and not hauling around a ton of books was a big seller for me. No more stuffing my suit case full of books when I travel.
I already have a small Macbook Pro laptop that I like real well, so no reason to purchase an I-Pad (I-Pad's are too big to fit in my purse).
For the price point, the Kindle Fire did exactly what I needed. I think you have to evaluate what you need a device to do. My mom and sister picked up their Kindle Fires from Wal-Mart this last week for the $199 plus $50 gift card. I think that sale lasts until February 14th.
The Kindle Fire comes with a charger included.

The Acer we bought is the same size (almost) as the Fire. There's an Ap for allowing it to use all our Kindle stuff, including of course, the library. There are definitely options available, and they definitely don't strike everyone the same way----so try them out."You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity." The Kindle Fire is a nice choice for the price, and that's even at the normal price of $199.
