  • Kindle Fire Users

I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. I asked my wife for it. I just love it as it does exactly what I want a tablet to do as well as being an eReader.

I am posting this to let any Kindle Fire owners know about a great deal on a case for their Kindle Fire. I just got one a few days ago. There are many choices of cases. The one I got is:

Acase Kindle Fire Premium Micro Fiber Leather Case with built-in Stand for Kindle Fire (Black)

I bought it on amazon.com for $12.74 for a $47 discount from the regular price of $59+. I got free 2 day shipping ( Amazon Prime ). It is real leather and a great case. This is by far the best deal on a good quality case with stand.

Also maybe we could discuss the apps. I have downloaded several of the free apps. Of course some came already installed. Does anybody have some favorite apps?

    My favorites are:

    1. eMail App. It is great for me because I have a POP3 email from my ISP. Of course it handles email from any source. I like using it more than getting my emails on my desktop/laptop.
    2. AccuWeather App - It is great and you can get the 15 day forecast. You just add the locations you are interested in.
    3. Sports Tap App. This is much better than the ESPN app that I also have. Easier to navigate and more comprehensive.
    4. TheStreet App ( TS ) - Very good financial app, stock market, etc.

I have some other good ones, especially news apps, and several games but these 4 are my favorites.

All the apps I have are free. I have also gotten 4 free books which are good.

I am hoping that others can add some more info to help other users. Please, this thread is not intended to be a comparison of tablets but instead a Kindle Fire users thread.

Thanks for the information. My Kindle Fire is less than a week old and I have been looking for a case. Just went on Amazon, read the great reviews and purchased this one.

Another great app to put on is Dropbox.

Also, I wonder if anyone can recommend what cord to purchase that will connect the Kindle with my desk top PC. Seems to be many choices...some with poor reviews.

Thanks, John. I just forwarded a copy of your case information to my daughter and grandchildren. They love their Kindel Fires.

          I Have A Kindle Fire

I got a Kindle Fire just before Christmas. The Kindle Fire Plus a Prime membership is the way to go.

I got myself a Blu-ray player with built in Wi-Fi last week. When you set up the Blu-ray player you get a code that allow you to get access to the free Amazon Prime Movies and TV show. (Also Netflix and other Movie sites plus Youtube.)

You can watch all of the free Amazon Movies and TV show on your TV with Wi-Fi. This means you do not have to have a cable hook up from your Kindle Fire to the TV in order to enjoy the movies.

I also use the Kindle to read our local newspapers such as, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Breaking news, sports, business, watchdog journalism in Wisconsin

I did the same thing with a little different twist. My TV has wi-fi and connects directly to the Internet. You just press the button on the remote and all the icons for Netflix, Amazon, Weather, Stock Market, etc. are displayed on the TV. I have the Amazon Instant video set up to get the Amazon streaming video. Of course I am subscribed to Amazon Prime.

I also got a new Blu-Ray player for Christmas but I asked NOT to get the wi-fi connection as it is already on my TV.

Another accessory that I bought is a stylus pen. This for me is a must have for any touch screen. Not only is it much easier than using your finger but you also don't get fingerprints on the screen.

              I bought the:

"Bluecell 3 Pack of Stylus Black Green Pink Universal Touch Screen Pen for Ipad 2 Ipod Iphone 4 4S 3g 3gs,4s,kindle fire, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy"

I bought it from Amazon for $5.39 which includes 3 stylus pens and free shipping. It works very well and sure keeps the screen a lot cleaner.

What is the "Dropbox" app for?. Where did you get it? I don't see it in the Kindle Fire App store.

                      Dropbox

                      John,

Does it work on your Fire? It doesn't seem to be in the APP store. Where did you load it from?

                      Thanks,
                      Nancy

ps. I use it all the time on our PC's.

It is very easy to install on the Kindle Fire and it works fine. Just do the following:

 Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Kindle Fire home screen to activate the Settings window

                         Click More

                         Scroll down to Device

 Scroll down to ‘Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources’ and move the slider from ‘Off’ to ‘On

 You’ll be prompted to confirm you mean to do this; you agreee

 Switch to the Kindle web browser and go to https://www.dropbox.com/android (NOTE: the ‘https‘ is important!), and click Download App. This will download the Dropbox .apk file

 When the download is finished you’ll see a notification in the top left corner. Click it and scroll down to the notification that the download of the Dropbox .apk file is complete. Click the file.

 You will be prompted to install the application. Click the button

 Once installation is completed, start the Dropbox application and log in.

                         Done!

This will work for other Android apps.

Thanks. I'll try later and let you know if I was able to do it or not.

Have you loaded any other Android apps that are not in the Amazon Fire app store?

No, not yet. Do you know of any good apps that I should have? Bear in mind that I am not big on getting a whole bunch of apps that I won't use.

Thanks. Got it loaded and it worked.

I haven't found any app that really I have to have. I play games and download the free app of the day. Never know when the grandkids might want them. I then store them in the Cloud until I need them.

I use Facebook and Word with Friends.
